Rainy Days Comes With Its Cravings.

Sleeping at work is something I never get to do but whenever it rains, we barely see anyone who walks in to buy goods from us and that’s usually an opportunity for us to sleep.
Rainy days mostly come with some food cravings. Sometimes, I may be craving Rice and fish which happens to be my best meal for the weather but on this day, I was craving Akara( a Nigerian street food) so bad.

Ever since I got my multipurpose blender, it has been easy for me to make Akara and other street foods. There is no twenty four hours electricity here and whenever there is light, we always want to take an advantage of the light.
My roommate and I branched the Mallam’s place to buy Beans, Pepper, and Onions to make the Akara while we also bought custard and milk so we can drink that while munching on the Akara.

To take opportunity of the electricity, we rushed inside the house and began to peel the beans. It was faster than usual and we added some pepper and other ingredients that the meal may need. Immediately, we brought out the multipurpose blender to grind the beans. Right after we started grinding, they executed the light.

“Ah! Why can’t they just wait a few seconds more? Will this even be able to make the Akara,” my roommate said to me.

At first, I was hopeless but was so keen on making the Akara. My work barely gives me the time to satisfy my cravings but on this night, whether I liked it or not, I will satisfy my cravings.

As for me, I was just hoping on having a wonderful night. I had already imagined myself eating my Akara, drinking my custard while seeing a movie I had planned to watch while at work. The worst part is how I never planned that anything could go wrong. If there was no more light, I didn’t buy any other raw food which I can cook and I’m likely to sleep hungry. I was just too optimistic about the electricity as if I had bribed them earlier.

Fortunately, there was still a hope. The beans didn’t grind well but manageable. There was nothing to do and no other food to eat so there was no option than frying beans cake like that.
While frying, we were having a taste of it and it was tasting well. Even if the light was executed, I can still have my meal.

(Phone Rings) my roommate and I have the same ringtone. We checked whose phone was ringing and it was hers.

Hello, I’m outside your house. Come and open the gate, this feels like the most annoying statement I have heard since a longtime. Yes, I know she has a boyfriend and he can come to say hi but he could have called before coming. I need my privacy as well and the most reasonable thing a visitor could do is call before coming.

That’s the first thing that got me annoyed. The second thing which annoys me the most is that we live in a room apartment and whenever he comes, I always have to excuse them but since it’s raining, I was inside the room with them.
I was sure that he never dared to tell me to excuse them. If he did, we might have ended the day with an argument but he just saved his soul.

Hmm, what are you guys cooking. It’s giving a nice aroma oh, he said. Without waiting for our consent to go into the kitchen, he ran to the kitchen to check what we were cooking.
Akara!!!, he screamed. I guess it’s been a longtime since he ate it. Then, he poured everything inside the plate and brought it into the room.

I was so hungry but lost my appetite for the meal. I’m the only one who knows how much I have anticipated the Akara all for him to come from nowhere and think that it is his girlfriend’s food and ate everything.
I’m not even the type who loves to share my meal so I just gave up on eating the meal I have been craving for.

Meanwhile, it was late. There was no where to buy snacks because all the shops were closed. I regretted it and felt I could have just eaten my share immediately after frying it.

My plans of eating Akara totally went wrong. The anger made me sleep hungrily even though I knew that I had a sachet of custard to make but I left it and slept hungry.

Omo! This one pain deep! 😩
From power wahala to boyfriend invasion, your Akara dreams got hijacked in 4K! That “hello I’m outside” part gave me secondhand vex. Next time, hide your food like it’s gold in a bank vault. 😂
Still, you told it so well funny, relatable, and painfully Nigerian. Rainy days aren’t just for cravings they’re for unexpected battles. Great storytelling! 👏🔥

😂😂😂. I never knew it would end up like this and I know how annoying having an unwanted guest can be and again your roomie boyfriend.

If I was the one
I wouldn’t vist often and I’ll always call before coming

I can imagine
No vex

Haha, haha, I'm sorry I am laughing this much because what in Christ's name was that? He ate the akara that you've been anticipating forever.

But then that isn't right, he should have asked, or the girlfriend should have told him that the food wasn't hers. "The right thing to do."

Quite relatable, my younger brother did that to me and I had to sleep hungry that day too.
