10 Cents, 1926 (Straits Settlements)

What's up plebs?

I am back again with another small treasure from my stash.

This is one of my most recent additions and came for around spot price in a bundle deal. It also comes from a place I had never heard of before, "Straits Settlements".

Straits Settlements was a group of British territories located in Southeast Asia, first established in 1826 as part of the territories controlled by the British East India Company. Eventually in 1946 the colony was dissolved as part of Britain's reorganisation of its Southeast Asian dependencies in the area. Feel free to click here for a historical run down by Wikipedia.

Anyways, let's move on and see some photo close ups:

As expected from a British colony coin, we have the king of the time, George V, on the obverse. The engraved text makes sure to remind the locals who is the real boss in case they get any strange ideas

GEORGE V KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA

Ok let's check the reverse now:

Nothing special here either, the denomination, minting date and name of colony. Pretty standard stuff!

TEN CENTS 1927

When it comes to silver, we have 2.71 g of 0.600 purity. That's about 1.6 of pure silver 🥈

And that pretty much sums today's coin!

Ok frens, this is it for today. As always, see you soon with more shiny 🤑

A unique piece with the added value of being very well preserved. It's beautiful. Thanks for the information about it.

Nice little coin! I definitely don't have any of those from that region. The British was huge once upon at time!

The Strait settlements would be the striking thing about the coin, at least for me. The story about it is also interesting.

"Nice find! How did you come across this coin from the Straits Settlements? Seems like a rare piece of history!"

This humble little silver coin does have an impressive Trade dollar big brother but I quickly quashed the ideal of buying it at the price of $300 USD with a few authentic sweet chop marks included.
It had such a beautiful reverse similar to the Hong Kong Trade dollar reverse, that's another story.
Just too rich for my wallet.

The truth, my friend, I had never heard of these colonies and neither had I heard of the coin, and the truth is that it is a nice coin.

British really had a lot of dominance on the Indian soil from what I am seeing.
