Conor McGregor advocating for Bitcoin

I don’t follow UFC that much, but I saw Conor McGregor's post on X and got a little encouraged about the future of Bitcoin. He said Ireland should have a Bitcoin reserve just as other nations are seeking to incorporate. Maybe he's just joining in the trend of crypto advocates for attention as some may assume but it's still free ads for crypto if you ask me.

What is he advocating for? Freedom...

I know what it feels like when your money doesn’t feel safe. I remember one time, my bank locked my card just because I used it too many times in that same day. I had no food money, no bus fare, no paper cash that day. It was my money in the bank alright, but I just couldn’t touch it because a system says so. They'd probably tell you something like we taught fraudulent activities were going on , which sounds fair, but what if they are wrong which they were.

That’s why when Conor says Bitcoin gives power back to the people, I support that. If it's our money, then we have full responsibility to protect and to use.

Anyways, most people I know talk about Bitcoin like it’s just numbers or tech, but for me, it's more like a way to not feel helpless. If the bank fails, you still have something, if the system says no, you can say yes.

I sincerely get scared thinking about losing what I saved, because sometimes, the world doesn’t give you a warning. So when Conor talks about a Bitcoin reserve for Ireland, I think he’s trying to prepare before something bad happens. He fights in the UFC arena for a living and maybe this is just another fight, but not in the cage.

I saw people replying to him, saying it should only be Bitcoin and not other crypto. I don’t know enough to argue that, but I do know Bitcoin’s name has stayed the longest. People still trust it, or at least they trust it more than the others. Im not writing this blog to advocate for altcoins, what really matters here is having something that’s not controlled by someone who doesn’t care about me.

I hope Ireland will listen. Mostly governments like to wait too long, then say it was too late. But if they ever decide to try, even just a little, I hope they remember why: It’s not about investments or charts but the regular people who don’t want to lose everything overnight.
