Welcome to Hive! Let’s Learn About HP, RC, Delegation & Power-Down.

Greetings everyone and welcome to this wonderful platform. I am @nabbas0786 and I really enjoy giving out helpful tips to newbies, I must admit that I myself am still in the learning phase, but anyway. I have also covered these subjects before.

So let me tell you today in very simple terms so you do not have any fear from the first day itself.

Some details which newbies should learn from day 1...

• Liquid Hive
• Hive Power
• Resource Credits
• Delegation
• Power Down

Liquid Hive

Liquid HIVE is the asset that you can spend or swap at any time as per your requirement. This will be used by you for purchasing anything on the Hive Blockchain including crypto, transferring to other users or swapping them on the market. On the other hand, Hive-Power is the amount that will remain staked for influence and resources. Both have their separate importance. It is common for new users to maintain some liquid HIVE for themselves while staking the rest.

Hive-Power

One of the best things that you can do on this platform is to power up your Hive. With Powering Up, your liquid HIVE will turn into Hive Power (HP), which is your investment in the network. You immediately feel the difference in how the platform works after experiencing details. You have more influence with your votes on posts and comments. Your curation rewards are going to be more generous if you back up the quality content. This process is really rewarding and fun because of gradual growth of your account.
Each month on the first day many users take part in Hive Power-Up Day. They power up a little bit of HIVE on a monthly basis as a support for the entire community. It is really useful for the health of the Blockchain. You don't have to invest a lot at once even small but constant power-ups will pay off really well...

Resource Credits

Now, let me explain to you about Resource Credits as they play an important role for daily activities. RC is the Important thing to understand if you are new here...
Resource Credits (RC) act as fuel for all activities on Hive platform including Posting, commenting, voting and token transfers. The higher is your HP then the faster is RC regeneration. It will refill up to 100 percent within five days at 20 percent per day. New users who have low HP will get quick down and they won't be able to do anything. This is why powering up in the early stage is really important for you. Otherwise, you will not be able to perform any action until it regenerates. This is designed to prevent spammers and ensure blockchain smoothness for everyone.
Think of RC as your weekly budget of actions where the higher is HP then the bigger is your budget. You can see the current RC percentage easily in wallets such as PeakD or Ecency.

The other thing that you should know about the RC mechanism is the fact that different actions consume different amounts. For example, the smallest amount of RC will be consumed if you vote or make a comment, while creating an account or publishing Blog will cost you much more. This knowledge will allow you to manage your resources efficiently.

Delegation

Another excellent option that works wonders for so many people here is to delegate. People with Good amount of HP have the option to delegate a bit of it to certain Good Curators... The most important thing is that you maintain complete control over your account. The delegating user will always have complete ownership of his/her HP and can call back the delegation at any time. This is just like making a temporary loan to each other where both the Delegator and the Curator gain from it. You will find so many generous people offering to do a delegation especially for active newcomers. It just makes everything easier and faster for you. You can create more posts, interact and grow your followers faster. You can check some useful communities or delegation posts when you join the site. I have made a comprehensive post on the same topic which you can see here make sure to read Comments for better understanding.

Hive Power to Liquid Hive / Power Down

The procedure of transforming your HP into liquid HIVE is referred to as powering down. This process takes some time to occur and it is a great benefit to all parties involved. It takes thirteen (13) whole weeks for the process to take place. During each of those weeks, you will be getting one thirteenth (1/13) of the total amount that was powered down. This ensures the stability of the whole process and avoids sudden shocks.
It is important to note that the power down procedure can be stopped anytime by you. All that needs to be done is to change the powered down amount to zero in your wallet and the process stops immediately.

Honest Tips for Newcomers

  • It is generally my recommendation that one powers down after careful consideration and thoughtfulness.
  • After starting the process you still can stop it by just following the instructions I have mentioned above...
  • All these steps are really easy to perform using wallets. Hive Keychain is good as a browser extension, both PeakD and Ecency have nice interfaces for performing operations like powering up, powering down and delegation. Just a couple of clicks and you are all set.
  • Please always use your active key while performing such critical operations.
  • Keys should be kept safe and never shared with anyone.
  • It is vital to secure oneself while working with your assets.

Summary

As time passes, you will observe that everything ties together seamlessly. More HP means more votes, high RC and good curation rewards. Delegation enables help from communities and friends. And power-down enables one to get access when one needs liquidity.

However, it took me some time to get into it and learn how things work step-by-step and I am still learning. But now I can already feel all the benefits of the continuous process of powering up. People from the community are very friendly and helpful when you communicate on a regular basis.

Hive promotes the long-term perspective. Users, who power up their accounts constantly usually get more money via voting and curation. And if you join the platform in the future, you will have more opportunities in the field of governance.

Key Tips

  • This detailed description is hopefully going to make you more comfortable on Hive.
  • Take your time exploring and experimenting.
  • Power up what you are able to do comfortably.
  • Try delegation in case you want a quick way out.
  • Manage your RC in a way that keeps you active but avoids frustration.
