🎬 2026 Movie Review #11 & #12 | 28 Years Later & The Bone Temple (2025)

January Movie Marathon Month
I have grown a bit of a tradition in January to watch all the 'Youtuber Top 10 Films Of The Year' videos to catch up with everything that was potentially good in the previous year. I'm still catching up on making some reviews on movies that I watched Late January and in February so I made this one a double feature of both the 28 Years Later Movies...

28 Years Later (7.0/10)
I actually started watching this movie a while back but the start didn't fully sell me especially the style it was filmed in while I was tired and I fell asleep. So I left it for a later date.
The movie starts off on the day of the outbreak following a kid who witnesses it and survives. We than cut 28 years later where he's grown up having a sick wife and a son on a secure island. The movie mainly follows the story of his son Spike who for the first time goes out on a trip beyond the Island and who afterward takes his mother to the mainland to find a doctor to get cured.
The story itself isn't that spectacular and it kind of gets a bit weird when he eventually finds the doctor in what happens to his mom. Overall though, I don't think it was that bad, but that mainly comes down to the fact that I enjoy these types of movies. The gore and the treat of the Zombies was pretty good also leaving me wanting to see more after the open ending as this is the 1st Movie of a trilogy.
From what I know, the script for the 3 movies was written upfront and thanks to the success of the 2nd movie mainly, the 3rd is on its way even though it can take some time.
Overall for me a 7.0/10 as I'm glad I put in the effort to watch it despite some of the reviews.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (7.0/10)
This continues the story where the main character comes across a group of young guys with quite brutal ethics and a cult-like guy who is in charge. There is also a 2nd story of the Doctor from the first movie who befiends one of the Alpha Zombies while the group where the kid is forced to join encounter him.

The movie once again sets up for the next chapter which will be in a different setting again. While the 2nd Movie gets a lot more praise and I can see why. Purely from my enjoyment point of view it was pretty similar to the 1st, so also a 7.0/10 and I'm looking forward to see rhe 3rd movie even though it's unlikely that I will actually go see it in the cinema when it is released.

Conclusion
For me both these movies were just some good entertainment and decent zombie end of the world movies and I enjoyed them both equally without putting too much importance on logic or consistency. Double 7.0/10 and I'm looking forward to the next one.

I was seriously let down by 28 Years Later and found a ton of inconsistencies in the story. I only watched the 2nd one to see if they could possibly do it worst. They didn't do it worse but still, a lot of inconsistencies and the breaking of the very rules that they, the film-makers established, is really annoying to me. The 2nd one lost a ton of money and at this point I would be surprised if they even made the 3rd.
I get where you are coming from and usually this bugs me also. At the same time, I have a thing for 'survival horror zombie' movies and I still enjoyed watching them mainly because of that despite the inconsistencies and at times weird storylines. I didn't know the 2nd one lost money but it's good to see they continue the story finishing the trilogy anyway. I don't plan to go watch it in the cinema though.
"28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is projected to lose up to $100 million due to its massive budget, marketing costs, and box office failure."
I can't imagine a situation where you make another film when you lose such a massive amount of money... But Hollywood seems to play by their own rules
nevermind... I just read that Sony gave the go-ahead
