A walk through the city of Soria, Spain / Un paseo por la ciudad de Soria, España (eng-esp)

Hello, Worldmappin friends!
Yesterday I was in the city of Soria. It's the first time I've visited this city since I moved to #Spain.
As an interesting fact, I'll tell you that it's the second highest city in Spain after the province of Ávila.

The city is wonderful. At times I thought I was in a Roman province, due to the Romanesque architecture in several historic sites, but with a marked tendency toward modernism as we move away from the historic city center.

I didn't visit much today since I just arrived, and my first stop was the Antonio Machado High School.
The poetry of this great Spanish writer shaped a large part of my childhood, and that's why I wanted this to be my first stop in the city where he wrote classics like Soledades, Galerías y otros poemas.

Being able to be in the classroom where he took classes and where he later taught as a professor is something that will remain etched in my mind forever.

Seeing the perfectly preserved classic mahogany desks and furniture from that early 20th-century era brought back a certain nostalgia, reminiscent of my student days in Cuba.

Then, as I walked through the halls and galleries of this study center, I understood why this great poet's second published book should have been inspired by the solitude and energy of these deserted galleries.

I didn't have time to tour the entire institute, but I did visit the area that wasn't destroyed by the fire of 1740.
This is the most Baroque part of the entire building.

I loved the tiled floors, the vaulted ceilings, the arched windows, and the Arabic-style moldings and other architectural styles.

During my visit, I was looking for any hint of the Gothic style, a gargoyle, or something similar, to photograph. However, I don't think this style reached Spain during the construction and reconstruction of the institute.

Leaving the institute, we came across one of the city's main celebrations: San Fermín.

Bulls and young people run through these narrow, cobbled streets during these festivities.

The colors red and white predominate festively above all else.
During these days, all of Soria celebrates. The music, laughter, the cries of vendors, and the smell of food fill the air and can be felt at any time of day.

To close out this tour of my first afternoon in the city of Soria, I'll show you this public laundromat.

There's nothing special about it, except that I never thought this type of establishment didn't yet exist in this first-world European city.

I thought this was something that only existed in Latin American countries, like mine.
It was truly a surprise.

Hola, amigos de Worldmappin.
El día de ayer estuve en la ciudad de Soria. Es la primera vez que visito de esta ciudad desde que me mudé para España.
Como dato interesante les cuento que es la segunda ciudad más alta de España después de la provincia de Ávila.

La ciudad es maravillosa. Por momentos creí que estaba en una provincia romana, debido a la arquitectura románica en varios sitios históricos, pero con una marcada tendencia al modernismo a medida que nos alejamos del centro histórico de la ciudad.

El día de hoy no visité mucho ya que recién acabo de llegar y mi primer destino fue el instituto Antonio Machado.
La poesía de este gran escritor español marcó gran parte de la infancia y por eso quería que este fuera mi primer destino en la ciudad donde escribió clásicos como Soledades, galerías y otros poemas.

Poder estar en el aula donde recibió clases y donde luego las impartió como catedrático es algo que quedará marcado en mi mente para siempre.

Ver los pupitres e inmobiliario de caoba clásico de aquella época de principios del siglo XX perfectamente conservados, me trajo cierta nostalgia, reminiscencias de mi época de estudiante en Cuba.

Luego a transitar por los pasillos y galerías de este Centro de estudios comprendí el motivo de por qué el segundo libro publicado de este gran poeta tenía que haber sido inspirado en la soledad y la energía de estas galerías desiertas.

No tuve tiempo de recorrer el instituto completo pero sí estuve en la zona que no fue destruida por el incendio de 1740.
Esta es la parte más barroca de todo el edificio.

Me encantaron los suelos de lozas, los techos abovedados, las ventanas con arcos y molduras con estilo arábicos y demás estilos arquitectónicos.

Durante mi visita anduve buscando algún indicio de estilo gótico alguna gárgola o algo similar, para fotografiarlo. Sin embargo, creo que este estilo no llegó a España durante la construcción y reconstrucción del instituto

Al salir del instituto, nos topamos con una de las principales celebraciones de la ciudad: el San Fermín.

Por estas callejuelas estrechas y adoquinadas corren toros y jóvenes durante estas fiestas.

Los colores rojos y blancos predominan festivamente por encima de cualquier cosa.
Durante esos días todo Soria está de fiesta. La música las risas, los pregones de los vendedores y el olor a comida llena el ambiente y se puede respirar a cualquier hora del día.

Para cerrar este recorrido que les he dado de mi primera tarde en la ciudad de Soria les enseño esta lavandería pública.
No tiene nada de especial excepto que nunca pensé que en esta ciudad del primer mundo europea aún no existiera este tipo de establecimientos.

Creí que esto solo era algo que existiese en países latinoamericanos, como el mío.
Realmente fue una sorpresa.
