El día levanta su cortina,
De a poco los rojos balbucean su canto colorido.
Nos iremos por carreteras y avenidas
Indiscutiblemente reveladoras.
Observaré el terreno verde
Mientras los amarillos palpiten
Despavoridos entre las hojas,
Y yo olvide en mi humanidad aquellos restos
De la noche, horrorosos.

Sacudiré mi aliento junto a las raíces de los almendros;
De lado a lado, las ceibas y los robles
Verterán sobre el asfalto
La brisa condescendiente de sus troncos.
Algún ave acaso me tropiece,
Acaso alguna voz en silencio me revele palabras de vida
Para que sane, junto al canto de las aves,
La tozudez del hombre moderno.

Y quiera el padre que de las nubes surjan los alevines
que navegarán las aguas de las historias,
que salten junto a una hoguera
muchos años después de este día,
muchos días después de esas sonrisas
con que los niños más pequeños me recibirán.
Y yo me sentiré joven, niño, árbol,
recorrido,hojarasca
Y en medio de la noche limpia
El velo del día
me revele la felicidad añeja del olvido.

The day lifts its curtain.

Little by little, the reds babble their colorful song.

We will set out along roads and avenues,

Unquestionably revealing.

I will watch the green fields

While the yellows flutter,

Frightened among the leaves,

And I forget, in my humanity, those remnants

Of the night, horrific.
