This is perhaps one of the hardest thing to ask other, "Do Me A Favour" especially in the workplace. Reason being that, everyone will claim to be busy and have no additional bandwidth to help.

And most of the time, it ends with trading favours, you help me and I help you. So end up every favour is tied to a return favour instead of genuine help. With everything transactional, it is now tougher for things to go around because there is always a price to pay before something can be done. Otherwise, it will be done slowly because procedures take longer to complete and people are not helping one another.

This is a sorry sight to see and greatly reduces productivity which is very undesirable. Work that can be easily settled through cooperation ends up taking a longer route to complete, wasting precious opportunities for competitive advantage. If a company want to capitalize market superiority, such transactional favour giving needs to be stopped so that people can put the company benefit at first instead of wanting something back in exchange for favours.
