Always Not Yet
I thought I needed a little more time.
That was the reason in the beginning.
A little more preparation. A little more research. A little more confidence.
The plan seemed reasonable. There was no point rushing into something important without being ready for it.
So I kept working behind the scenes. Reading. Learning. Improving things. Fixing details that probably didn't need fixing.
Whenever the opportunity came up, I had the same answer.
"Not yet."
I wasn't avoiding it. At least that's what I told myself.
I genuinely believed I was getting closer.
But after a while, I noticed something strange.
The people who started after me were already moving.
Some of them weren't as prepared.
Some of them made mistakes I could have avoided.
Some of them clearly had less knowledge.
Yet they were gaining experience while I was still making adjustments.
Months passed.
Then one day, I opened one of my old notes.
I read through all the plans, all the ideas, all the things I intended to do when I was finally ready.
Most of them were still sitting there untouched.
Not because they were impossible.
Not because I couldn't do them.
Just because I kept preparing for a beginning that never came.
And for the first time, I realized something uncomfortable.
The thing holding me back wasn't lack of preparation anymore.
It was the habit of preparing.
