How often do I recycle?

The question left me to ponder for hours and hours. After taking so much time to think, Now i took courage to write my answer with so much ashamed eyes;

As much as i can remember, May be Never

How painful? Right?

I am not good to this planet...... this thought got stuck in my mind. But another thought came>>>>> I am at least contributing at least a little for the betterment of environment.

How much?

Ummm, quite striking question, but i will respond to it. Firstly, I try to minimize use of plastic or plastic products. In case, if i am using, i always throw them in bins after using.
Secondly, I never rode motorcyle and car. Actually, the funny thing is that i never learnt to ride motorcyle and car. I just know about Bicycle____ a good means without tension of fuel and money. It's easy. Moreover, as i am staying in hostel where Air conditioner seems like a luxury, It means that we aren't using air conditioners. So, in this way, I think i am an eco-friendly person.

I have reused recyclable things many times

At home, it would be a challenge to recycle anything as recycling is not a single step thing. It's a process that involves so many steps and aid of machineries and need of equipment. Instead of recycling, we reuse many recyclable items like newspapers and old textbooks. My mother often uses old newspapers and textbooks to keep bread and other edible things. There are many other things that we reuse at home.

We contribute our part in recycling of items. From my childhood, i often have seen people who used to collect some specific items from wastage. This always looked weird to me. I always ended up scratching my head. I got to know that by collecting specific items from wastage, they make money. This explanation always popped up series of questions in my mind. Those questions got cleared now in this stage of life when i got to learn that they are playing their part in recycling journey. Those waste pickers, to whom we often look down, are actually better friends of eco system and environment. They, waste pickers, pick plastic and other recyclable products from wastage area or buy from homes. Yes, you read it right.... In my country, we can sell plastic bottles to waste pickers. They can be called an informal sector of recycling products.

On Government level, the process of rececyling or spreading awareness seems slow like ant walking. Government just pays lip service and they are always making policies. At last, they just end up doing nothing. At least, they can install separate bins for different type of waste products. These type of bins are just visible in the capital city of the country. Still, i appreciate the efforts of government but it should take such initiatives in which community take part effectively and efficiently. Even if the government forced to take bold step like rewarding people and communities in return to their recycling efforts then they must do it.

In conclusion,the responsibility for recycling often falls on individuals, but without the necessary infrastructure, collection bins, sorting facilities, and awareness campaigns, it becomes so much difficult.

Instead of selling, we usually donate to these people. Even when we had, for example, some leftover iron, which is heavy, an old fence or gate, we would call these people and donate it because even though they were poor, we knew that they needed it even more than we did!
