Not All Soup Are Healthy, One Of THem Is This SOTO

Hello Asean Hive Community

I like to eat Soto. In Indonesia there are soto and soup which basically those two are the same but they are not the same. Ok my words here definitely confuse you, so let me start over about Soto.

Soto is actually a soup. Yes it is a soup, that's why I say they are the same. But in specific, people here differ Soto with Soup. We call it Soto if it is a soup that specifically an Indonesian cuisine, or it is a traditionally dish that has a deep cultural roots.

And we call it soup if it is a non Indonesian traditional cuisine. It is not limited to general western dish, it can go for Chinese, Japanese and other region too.

But Malaysia and Singapore have Soto too, yes they have... but their Soto come from the region where many Javanese Descent live. So their Soto is more like local adapted taste of Soto from Indonesia. You can ask @vaynard86 who live in Singapore about that one.

Anyway another distinct different between Soto and Soup is that Soto is always be a main dish. They come with rice and side dish. Soup is mostly presented as a starter or side dish.

There are many Soto recipe in Indonesia, one of the most Soto I eat is Soto Lamongan which comes from East Java. We have @arveno here who is from East Java too. There are reason why I often eat this Soto, but definitely it is not because of my favorite.

Soto Lamongan is well known and many people can make this soto easily. The taste is strong, have a lot of spice and definitely one of the cheapest Soto here so they are easily accepted everywhere.

Soto should be a healthy one, as that what most people see from Soup. Soto uses many Indonesian spices such as turmeric, galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and spring onion, so in a glance this should be healthy soup right? However not all the ingredient are a healthy one...

Let point out some of them that are not. The first one is coconut milk which has high calories and high saturated content. In general coconut milk is not bad, but it is not a very healthy one, some say this is a zero sum like a crypto trading lol. The second one is this soto has many additional favor from cooking oil and some MSG. Sum it all, it has high salt content and this is not suitable for people like @shanibeer... I just read her post about having a healthy food, and definitely this soto is not LoL...

But...

We can compensate that with removing some of unnecessary ingredients there. With less salt, less coconut milk and other oil, and removing Koya (the pinky one), it will drop a lot of salt content and saturated fat. So it becomes healthier.

I took the above shots to show you guys how it would look if we took out all the delicious booster for the sake of being healthy.

The Side Dish

One of the problem in Soto is that most of us here always pick the delicious side dish. Delicious food = making your live closer to after life LoL.

The one that I like a lot is brain, the second one is lung. sometime I order some quail eggs... Or whatever they are, the must have a high cholesterol

This is what I have for my side dish... It is chicken Oviduct or uterus, which can be found only in Hens. It is not chicken intestine, although they are look a like but their taste is very different.

Let see the good things first. As part of animal organ, Uritan has high proten and many micro nutrients such as iron, zinc, vitamin B12, and others. They have a very low fat and carbohidrat, so they won't make you fat.

Now let see the reality or the bad one. They have a low fat content, but all their fat are saturated one, so if you like to eat this uritan regularly, it is a guaranteed one that soon you will get some hearth and cardiovascular issue LoL

Another reason why you should not eat this Uritan, it is because most people think and see this part as something that should not be a food. There is a very limited knowledge and literature about this part of a chicken.

Then why do I eat that? Simple answer... IT TASTES GREAT!!!

Great post. I think I could eat Soto with the delicious boosters as a treat now and then. We have to live, even if we live closer to the after life 😂

Oh! The uritan! That’s not for the faint hearted. But sometimes, taste wins over all the health warnings. Everything in moderation.🤗

Wow! I think I'll love that soto. It contains many good and healthy spices. I do believe coconut milk is healthy, though.
