Trying to Survive a Desert Oasis in Minecraft

I have been playing Minecraft for many years now. There is a lot of content in the game, and we keep finding new challenges that keep it fresh. The latest we started is from Aternos Blueprints called Oasis. In this one, you are stranded in the middle of an endless desert with a few trees and limited water, and you have to manage your water needs. There is an additional thirst bar that adds a bit of a challenge.

We spawned on this little oasis with a few jungle trees, a water stream and a couple of cauldrons. At first, we were not sure why they gave us cauldrons, but it became clear as we couldn't drink water straight from the ground. It must be purified first by putting it in a cauldron. Drinking from glass bottles is a bit tedious as you have to keep some spare with you all the time, and they don't stack up.

At first, we struggled with keeping up with the water because, in this version, the infinite water trick doesn't work. I don't know how they removed that feature. But that added a bit of water scarcity to the mix. Fortunately, we had a piece of dripstone next to a cave, which could slowly fill the cauldron with pure water.
Food was hard to come by as well. Since we were in a desert biome, there were no sheep, cows or pigs spawning. We even had a limited supply of dirt blocks on the surface. Beril started working on a wheat farm, and we expanded it slowly as we progressed.

The first few days were spent chopping down trees, mining some stone for tools and fishing so we can manage our hunger as well. The nights were not very pleasant; there were a lot of zombies. We were surprised to encounter husks on a camel. One of them was hunting us with a bow, while the other had a spear. I didn't know how much spear can deal damage. They humbled us and made us fearful for a couple of nights.

The only trees we have are Jungle trees, and they are notorious for not giving saplings back. Our tree numbers have been declining steadily, and we need to find a sapling with better drop rates. The only method that comes to my mind is by Wandering Trader trades, but the first one we got didn't have any saplings.

Soon, a zombie dropped a carrot, and we started a carrot farm. That might be very useful if we want to eventually get books. The only source of good leather I see is crafting it from rabbit hide, and we need to breed a lot of rabbits for that to happen. A potato was dropped by another zombie, and that kick-started our little potato farm as well.

We went in all directions to see if there is another biome around us, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I am afraid that we are stuck with deserts only in this overworld. If we have to venture far away, we need to get ample food and water. For now, we are going to stay in this little oasis and see how we can progress further.
Maybe there are other things that we can drink which can give us thirst buffs? Without a better way to pack a lot of water with us, I don't see any good way to explore the Nether or kill the Ender Dragon. But that is a long way away. We can think about strategies later.

Join us next time as we try to explore this vast desert next time. Hopefully, we can find some villages or structures with good loot.
Thanks for reading.
