Rush Townsend vs Chaos Golem: What Really Determines a Monster’s Value?

Buying monsters after properly understanding them is much better than purchasing a monster without checking its stats and abilities and simply adding it to your deck.

It is very important to understand why a monster with abilities that may not seem very special is still expensive in terms of price or why some monsters have excellent speed and stats but are still available at a lower market price. There are actually several important factors that need to be considered which I will discuss in this post.

Today I will explain why two monsters with almost the same abilities can have different prices in the market. Lets talk about Rush Townsend and Chaos Golem.

If we only look at their visual cards Chaos Golem may appear much stronger but when it comes to pricing both monsters are almost available at the same price.

First let me talk about Rush Townsend. Its mana cost is 9 which makes it a great selection for medium to high mana battles. However in low mana battles this card is not very useful because its high mana cost limits your overall card selection.

It has 1 armor which continuously protects its health and its health is only 4 which is quite low. If you place it in a weak position and a magic attacker targets it the monster can be eliminated very quickly.

Its speed is 4 which increases both its attack speed and overall battle performance. The most special thing about this monster is its ranged attack power of 4 that it can continuously deal +4 damage to enemy units every round.

In simple words the more protection you provide to this monster the better it performs because its armor and health are not very strong.

Now lets talk about its abilities. At level 1 it has two important abilities that is Ambush and Affliction.

Ambush takes an extra turn before the first round of battle..

Affliction has a 50% chance to apply Affliction after a successful attack.. The affected units healing ability becomes disabled means that monster cannot heal again during battle. This is considered one of its strongest abilities.

If I talk about the market price the minimum price of this card at level 1 is around $2.4.

On the other hand we have Chaos Golem. If you look at its visual power and abilities it may seem much stronger and more powerful than Rush Townsend. Its mana cost is also 9 which again makes it more suitable for medium to high mana battles and a very strong card choice.

It has 4 armor which provides excellent protection to its health. This amount of armor is very high allowing it to work effectively as a tank monster that can continuously deal damage while protecting itself. Also it has 10 health which is exactly what you expect from a strong tank monster.

Its speed is 3 which still gives it decent battle performance and it also has a melee magic attack power of 3 allowing it to continuously deal +3 damage to nearby enemy units every round.

Now if we compare their market prices Chaos Golem at level 1 is also priced around $2.5. So the question is... if Chaos Golem looks much stronger why is its price almost the same?

The main reason lies in the abilities. As you may have noticed Chaos Golem only has one ability at level 1. Remember abilities play an extremely important role during battles. In my opinion around 30–40% of a battle’s outcome depends on abilities alone.

Chaos Golem only has one ability called Return Fire which returns 50% of the damage back to the attacker whenever it is hit by a ranged attack. Meanwhile Rush Townsend has two strong abilities which is the main reason behind the difference in value despite their similar prices.

That is why understanding a monster before buying it or selecting it for battle is extremely important because victory often depends on how wisely you choose your monsters.
