Literature as a mirror in which to look at the past, present and future / La literatura como espejo en el que mirar/nos el pasado, presente y futuro (eng-esp)

Writers have always been seen as chroniclers of their time, their society, and even their era.
Through literature, we can analyze language and how it has changed over the years since the first published literary work.
We can also analyze the historical and social movements of the world and of each country from which it is written.
Above all, after Johannes Gutenberg invented the modern printing press in the 15th century, we can learn from humanity's mistakes and successes through books.

When we talk about teaching and promoting human values, there is no better way to do it than through literature.
Through works of fiction, authors reflect on all the social ills and problems that concern them.
They also show the actions and behaviors we must replicate for the good of our society and our species.
Literature is a means to understand and analyze the behavior of the human species throughout time.

For example, in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain not only provided a snapshot of that era, both topographically and sociologically. At the same time, he denounced one of the greatest scourges of humanity: slavery. However, he didn't write an essay about this, nor did he center his work around slavery. Instead, he showed us, through Huck's actions, what proper behavior should be. He expressed his position on the matter.
We can see the same thing in works like Uncle Tom's Cabin, among others.
Nobel Prize winner in literature Selma Lagerlöf showed us that literature can also be a means of learning with her great book The Wonderful Journey of Nils Holgersson, which shows us the entire geography of her country through the adventures of the protagonist.

Within literature, there are genres such as fantasy and science fiction, which explore the fears and hopes of each era.
At the same time, it shows us doors or windows of escape and improvement for everyone. Science fiction tells us how we are and how we could be: for better or for worse.
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein portrayed a negative side of human psychology with her doctor, while also speaking of the importance of words, ethics, and love.
However, she also showcased some of the scientific advancement of the time, as the science used to bring the monster to life was inspired by the inventions of Luigi Galvani, the creator of galvanization.
Another chronicler of his time was the great Jules Verne, who, through his writings, predicted numerous inventions, incredible for his time, but now reality.
To give his stories greater credibility, he blended real elements of geography, society, and history with real experiments of his time, and fictionalized them.

More recently, what did science fiction writers write about in the 20th century?
During the 1960s and 1970s, most stories revolved around the fear of nuclear war and the space race.
Experiments with DNA and psychology also began.
There were even short stories and novels that announced and feared artificial intelligence and human dependence on it.

But the greatest fear of all was the fear of the destruction of the planet.
Today, the most popular genre, especially since 2019, has been dystopia. That is, the fear of unwanted societies.

Let us then take books, literature, as a mirror in which we can see ourselves, the past, present, and future.

Let us bring children closer, let us all bring this manifestation of art and human thought closer.

Siempre se ha visto al escritor como un cronista de su tiempo, de su sociedad, e incluso, de su época.
A través de la literatura podemos realizar un análisis del lenguaje y cómo es este ha cambiado a través de los años desde la primera obra literaria publicada.
También a los movimientos históricos y sociales del mundo y de cada país desde aquel donde se escribe.
Sobre todo, después de Johannes Gutemberg inventara la imprenta moderna en el siglo XV, podemos aprender de los errores y aciertos de la humanidad: a través de los libros.

Cuando hablamos de enseñanza y de promover valores humanos no hay mejor medio para hacerlo a través de la literatura.
A través de las obras de ficción los autores reflejan todos aquellos males y problemas sociales que les preocupan.
También muestran aquellas acciones y comportamientos que debemos replicar por el bien de nuestra sociedad y de nuestra especie.
La literatura es un medio para comprender y analizar los comportamientos de la especie humana a través del tiempo.

Por ejemplo, en el libro Las aventuras de Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain no solamente avisó una fotografía de aquella época, tanto topográficamente como sociológicamente. Al mismo tiempo denunció uno de los principales flagelos de la humanidad: la esclavitud. Sin embargo no hizo un ensayo sobre esto ni giró su obra en torno a la esclavitud sino que nos mostró a través de las acciones de Huck, cómo debía ser el comportamiento correcto. Mostró su posición al respecto.
Lo mismo podemos ver en obras como La cabaña del tío Tom, entre otras más.
La Premio Nobel de literatura Selma Lagerlöf, nos mostró que la literatura también puede ser un modo de aprendizaje con su gran libro El maravilloso viaje de Nils Holgersson, donde nos muestra toda la geografía de su país a través de las aventuras del protagonista.

Dentro de la literatura, hay géneros como los de fantasía y de ciencia ficción, que exploran aquellos temores y esperanzas de cada época.
Al mismo tiempo nos muestra puertas o ventanas de escape y mejoría para todos. La ciencia ficción nos dice cómo estamos y cómo podríamos estar: para bien o para mal.
Mary Shelley con su Frankenstein mostró una parte negativa de la psicología humana con su doctor y al mismo tiempo, habló de la importancia de la palabra, la ética y el amor.
Sin embargo también mostró parte del adelanto científico de la época, ya que la ciencia utilizada para darle vida al monstruo están inspirada en los inventos de Luigi Galvani, el creador de la galvanización.
Otro cronista de su época fue el gran Julio Verne, quién con sus escritos predijo múltiples inventos, increíbles para su época, pero que hoy son realidad.
Vende para imprimirle mayor verosimilitud a sus historias, mezclada elementos reales de la geografía sociedad historia con experimentos reales de su época y los ficcionaba.

Ya más para acá, ¿de qué escribian los de cf en el siglo XX?
Durante la década de 60 y 70, la mayoría de las historias rondaban el temor a la guerra nuclear y la carrera espacial.
Comenzaron también los experimentos con el ADN y la psicología.
Incluso se realizaron cuentos y novelas donde anunciaban y temían el miedo de las inteligencias artificiales y la dependencia del humano a ellas.

Pero, el mayor temor de todos era el miedo a la destrucción del planeta.
Hoy en día el género que más auge ha tomado, sobre todo desde el año 2019, ha sido el de la distopía. O sea el miedo a las sociedades no deseadas.

Tomemos entonces a los libros, a la literatura, como espejo en el que mirar/nos el pasado, presente y futuro.

Acerquemos a los niños, acerquémonos todos a esta manifestación del arte y del pensamiento humano.
