It's sad how many people make snap judgments and jump to conclusions. It's somewhat understandable when people know each other. When they barely interact with each other or are complete strangers, it becomes downright ridiculous.

There's not enough context to make an educated decision when all you're looking at is what you see on the surface. It's rarely ever a good idea, yet people do it all the time. Would you buy a car using this same method? If someone took the engine from a Geo Metro and dropped it into the chassis of a Lamborghini, you'd be severely disappointed and even upset for being scammed if you bought it. If you never looked under the hood and never bothered to ask questions, you'd only have yourself to blame.

It takes only a moment to ask questions and get much-needed context, but how many actually do that? Very few. I think it stems from laziness. Most don't care, and many who do aren't motivated enough to do something about it.

It's a sad state of affairs, and so the question becomes, "How do we change this?" I believe the first step is calling it out for what it is: laziness. The second step is to model how it should be done. Take the extra time, ask questions, get context, then reach a decision. If you don't, you end up burning bridges unnecessarily, and some bridges are worth preserving.
