Hola comunidad @ladiesofhive, nuevamente con ustedes con un nuevo capítulo de las Cosas pequeñas que me sostienen.

A veces encontramos compañía en los lugares más inesperados.

No siempre llega en forma de conversación.

No siempre tiene rostro.

Y, en ocasiones, ni siquiera sabemos el nombre de la persona que nos la ofrece.

Hace algún tiempo necesitaba consultar un libro para revisar algunos temas relacionados con un trabajo. Era uno de esos ejemplares que ya habían pasado por muchas manos.

La cubierta mostraba señales de uso.

Las páginas tenían ese tono amarillento que adquieren los libros con los años.

Y al abrirlo se percibía esa sensación difícil de explicar que tienen los objetos que han acompañado a muchas personas antes que nosotros.

Mientras avanzaba en la lectura, encontré algo que me hizo detenerme.

Varias líneas estaban cuidadosamente subrayadas con lápiz.

No era una página especialmente importante dentro del libro.

Ni una cita famosa.

Sin embargo, alguien había sentido la necesidad de marcar aquel fragmento.

Como si esas palabras hubieran significado algo especial en algún momento de su vida.

Leí el párrafo con atención.

Y después volví a leerlo.

Entonces me descubrí preguntándome quién habría sido aquella persona.

¿Qué estaría viviendo cuando encontró esas palabras?

¿Qué la llevó a detenerse precisamente allí?

¿Habrá sido estudiante?

¿Estaría atravesando una etapa difícil?

¿Necesitaba una respuesta?

¿O simplemente encontró en esa frase algo que no quería olvidar?

Por supuesto, nunca lo sabré.

Y creo que justamente ahí reside la belleza de momentos como ese.

Durante unos segundos sentí una especie de conexión silenciosa con alguien a quien jamás conoceré.

Dos personas separadas por años, por circunstancias distintas y quizá por vidas completamente diferentes, detenidas en el mismo lugar de un mismo libro.

A veces pensamos que nuestras dudas, nuestros esfuerzos o nuestras preocupaciones son únicamente nuestras.

Pero de vez en cuando aparece algo tan simple como una frase subrayada para recordarnos que otras personas también han pasado por emociones parecidas.

Que otros también buscaron respuestas.

Que otros también necesitaron aferrarse a ciertas palabras.

Y aunque nunca lleguemos a conocerlos, de alguna manera dejan una pequeña huella detrás.

Tal vez por eso me gustan tanto los libros usados.

Porque además de las historias impresas por sus autores, a veces conservan pequeñas señales de las personas que los leyeron antes.

Y esas señales también cuentan una historia.

Una historia incompleta.

Silenciosa.

Pero profundamente humana.

A veces son las que descubrimos por casualidad entre las páginas que otro dejó atrás.

Hello @ladiesofhive community, once again I am here with a new chapter of Small Things That Sustain Me.

Sometimes we find companionship in the most unexpected places.

It does not always come in the form of a conversation.

It does not always have a face.

And sometimes we do not even know the name of the person offering it.

Some time ago, I needed to consult a book for a work-related topic. It was one of those copies that had clearly passed through many hands.

The cover showed signs of wear.

The pages had that yellowish tone that books acquire over the years.

And as soon as I opened it, I felt that difficult-to-describe atmosphere that belongs to objects that have accompanied many people before us.

As I read, I noticed something that made me stop.

Several lines had been carefully underlined in pencil.

It was not a particularly important page.

Nor was it a famous quotation.

Yet someone had felt the need to mark that passage.

As if those words had meant something special at some point in their life.

I read the paragraph carefully.

And then I read it again.

Soon I found myself wondering who that person might have been.

What were they going through when they found those words?

Why did they stop at that exact place?

Were they a student?

Were they facing a difficult moment?

Were they looking for an answer?

Or had they simply found something they did not want to forget?

Of course, I will never know.

And I think that is exactly what makes moments like this so beautiful.

For a few seconds, I felt a quiet connection with someone I will never meet.

Two people separated by years, different circumstances, and perhaps completely different lives, stopping at the same place in the same book.

Sometimes we think our doubts, efforts, and worries belong only to us.

But every now and then, something as simple as an underlined sentence reminds us that others have walked similar paths.

That others have searched for answers too.

That others have needed to hold on to certain words.

And even if we never know who they were, somehow they leave a small trace behind.

Perhaps that is one reason I enjoy used books so much.

Because besides the stories written by their authors, they sometimes preserve small signs left behind by previous readers.

And those signs tell a story too.

An incomplete story.

A silent one.

But a deeply human one.

Sometimes the things that sustain us most are not the ones people tell us directly.

Sometimes they are the ones we discover by chance between the pages someone else left behind.
