Giving space or check ins

RIP

Silence is not always peace.
Sometimes it is a room slowly filling with darkness while everyone outside assumes the lights are still on.

The tragic passing of Anik Dutta has reminded many people of something painfully human — a person can appear reserved, dignified, even “fine,” while carrying storms no one notices. Reports around his death mention isolation, emotional struggles, and silence that perhaps became too heavy to hold alone.

Friendship is not only laughing together in bright seasons.
Sometimes friendship is the quiet courage to knock twice on a silent door.
Giving space is important, yes.
But there is a difference between respecting silence and disappearing from someone’s life entirely.
A simple
“Are you okay?”
“I’m here if you want to talk.”
“You don’t have to carry everything alone.”
— can become a small bridge between despair and survival.

People often think checking in will disturb someone. But sometimes the greater tragedy is when everyone assumes someone else will ask, someone else will notice, someone else will stay.
In a world growing noisier yet emotionally distant, kindness must become intentional.
Not intrusive. Not forceful. Just present.
Because many hearts do not ask for rescue loudly.

They whisper through withdrawal, delayed replies, unusual silence, or vanishing laughter.
And sometimes, love arrives not as advice —
but as a message saying,
“I noticed you became quiet, and I wanted to make sure you are still holding on.”

A regular check-ins would have been saved a life. Not every wound asks for solutions — some only wait to be noticed.” I prefer check-ins over complete disappearance and I never feel it impacts my self-respect.
