Ladies of hive community. Contest #252: What drives me, Passion or profit or independence?
Right from childhood, passion for teaching has been my guiding light. I still remember how I would gather my friends to teach them the alphabet, pretending to be like the teachers I so admired in class. For me, teaching was never just play—it was the joy of seeing someone learn something new through me.
After secondary school, when I sat for UTME, my first choice was English Education. I knew in my heart that I wanted to impart knowledge, to nurture minds the way my teachers nurtured mine. Although a mix-up in my results forced me to change course, I could not let go of my dream. I dropped off, sat for the exam again, and this time scored very high. When I showed my result to my aunt, who is herself a teacher, she urged me to study Law, saying my scores were too good for education, that it would be a “waste of brain.” I did not argue. Quietly, I held onto my passion and pressed on with the course of my dreams.

Now in the university, that passion continues to speak. Whether in tutorials with junior colleagues or even seniors, I find myself drawn to explain, to guide, and to teach. Nothing compares to the joy I feel when someone understands through my effort. Teaching never feels like stress to me, it feels like purpose. Passion makes the hard work light, and it reminds me that fulfillment does not always come from profit, but from doing what sets the soul on fire.
