Regulation in Germany: Security service must guard the guardrail at an elementary school in Frankfurt because it's 2.75 inches too low. For 100 years no one bothered about the existing 40 in high guardrail.

In einer Schule in Frankfurt muss jetzt das Geländer von einem Sicherheitsdienst mit 12 Personen überwacht werden, weil das Geländer laut Regulierung 7 cm zu niedrig ist. 100 Jahre hat das niemanden gestört, bei einer Routine-Kontrolle ist das Problem entdeckt worden.

Das Geländer müsste laut Regulierung 110 cm hoch sein, ist aber nur 103 cm hoch, um 7 cm zu niedrig.

Jetzt muss das Geländer ausgetauscht werden und bis dahin muss ein Sicherheitsdienst das Treppenhaus in der Schule bewachen. Die Security kostet fast 14 Tausend Euro pro Woche. Geplante Zeit des Einsatzes: 2 bis 4 Wochen. Vielleicht auch länger, bis ein neues Geländer angeschafft werden kann.

At a school in Frankfurt, the guardrail now has to be guarded by a security service with 12 guards because, according to regulations, it is 7 cm (2.75 in) too low. This hadn’t bothered anyone for 100 years, the problem was discovered during a routine inspection.

According to regulations, the guardrail should be 110 cm (43 in) high, but it is just 103 cm (40 in) high, 7 cm (2.75 in) too low.

Now the guardrail must be replaced, and until then, a security service must guard the stairwell in the school. The security costs nearly 14,000 euros per week. Planned duration of the operation: 2 to 4 weeks. Perhaps even longer, until a new guardrail can be obtained.
