Crochet a Hat with Me...๐Ÿ‘’๐Ÿ‘’

(Edited)

One day I stumbled upon a picture of a crochet bucket hat on Pinterest. I wasn't ready to be pushed deep into a rabbit hole of crochet bucket hats.

I searched for the latest designs like a maniac on drugs, and was enamoured by the creativity and beauty that people made with their hands.

Designed my Images using Canva

For real, I saw hats that made me wonder how someone came up with such incredible patterns. How did people even get to discover certain crochet patterns, and turn them into gorgeous pieces?

Well, after a very satisfying scroll, my gut had been convinced that we had to create something, anything. And so I did what I do best, and took my 62kg self to the market in search of wool with pretty colors.

I had a vision, and one way or another, it was gonna come into reality.

Tools

  • Crochet pin
  • Wool (any color of your choice)
  • Scissors

Procedure

I started by making 4 chains and then I did a slip stitch into the first one to close it off. Into the newly created circle, I inserted twelve double crochets, and then I closed it off with a slip stitch into the first crochet.

I moved into the second row by making three chains, then inserting two double crochets into each stitch, all the way around.

After the second row was complete, I moved to the third, where I inserted two double crochets into a stitch, followed by one double crochet in the next stitch, and then two double crochets in the stitch after that. I continued this till the end of that row.

In the third row, I started with my three single chains, then inserted two double crochets in the first stitch, followed by one double crochet each into the next two stitches, and then a double crochet in the next.

As I approached each row, the number of stitches with a single double crochet increased by one, to be followed by two double crochets.

I did this until the diameter of my circle measured 7 inches. When I was done with that, I moved onto the band of my bucket hat which I made out of granny squares.

If you need a tutorial on granny squares, kindly refer to this article.

After making my 5 granny squares, I proceeded to attach them all together, which I did by inserting the pin into each stitch by the sides, and making a single crochet.

When I was done with that, I made a double crochet into each stitch all around both ends of the granny square band. After doing this, I then attached one end of the band to my circular base.

After this, I finished up the other end with a single crochet of a different yarn, giving it a little pizzazz.

And that guys, is how I made my very own crochet hat.
