While checking my Disney+ account, it suggested a series I'd watched a few months prior. Produced in Mexico, it received excellent reviews and a large audience, standing out for its dark humor and compelling storyline. This is a good option for those who enjoy drug trafficking series, or if you're looking for something different, as it explores some novel and controversial themes on television.
Revisando en mi cuenta de Disney+, me sugirió de nuevo una serie que ya hacía unos meses había visto. Esta está producida en México, y tuvo de las mejores críticas y buena audiencia, destacando por humor negro y una historia muy interesante. Esta es para aquellos a quienes les pueda gustar la serie de narcotráfico o, bien, si buscas algo distinto, ya que esta te muestra algunas cosas que son algo nuevas y polémicas en la TV.
Mama Cake is a series that premiered on September 25, 2024, co-directed by Luis Hernández Kilo and David Pagán Mariñez, and stars Susana Alexander as "María." María is an elderly woman with a deep passion for baking and other things. One day, she finds herself alone after the death of her partner, which leads to legal problems with her sister-in-law over the house where she lives. Needing to earn money to respond to the lawsuit, she begins to combine her passions and restart her epic "Specialty Pastry" business.
Mama Cake es una serie estrenada el 25 de septiembre de 2024, dirigida conjuntamente por Luis Hernández Kilo y David Pagán Mariñez, y está protagonizada por Susana Alexander como "María". María es una mujer de la tercera edad que tiene una alta pasión por la repostería y otras cosas, pues esta un día se queda sola tras la muerte de su pareja, y gracias a esto empiezan algunos problemas legales con quien era su cuñada por la casa donde vive. Como esta tiene que empezar a hacer dinero para poder responder a la denuncia, comienza a combinar sus pasiones y así comenzar de nuevo su épico negocio de "Reposteria Especial".
This series features some familiar faces from Latin America, such as María Antonieta de las Nieves, a loyal customer of Mama Cake. While an illegal dessert business, run by a small group of senior citizens, brought a fresh perspective to television within the popular narco genre, the acting was also phenomenal, with unique and palpable interactions that captivated viewers from the very first episode.
En esta serie vemos algunos rostros reconocidos de Latinoamérica, como a María Antonieta de las Nieves, quien es una cliente fiel de Mama Cake. Si bien, un negocio ilegal de postres y demás liderado por un pequeño grupo de adultos mayores aportó a la televisión una nueva trama en un género de televisión tan popular como las historias de narcos. Al igual que las actuaciones, que estuvieron brutales, con interacciones únicas y que se sintieron palpables en todo momento, siendo de aquellas series que te atrapan desde el primer momento.
It's worth noting that, despite the positive reception from audiences and critics, the action scenes here feel clichéd; they really feel out of place and different from what was expected. Even so, we're still waiting for confirmation of a second season, but given Disney's well-known strictness, some speculate that the series is being secretly produced and will likely return soon as a surprise for Latin American audiences.
Cabe destacar que, a pesar de la buena aceptación de parte de la audiencia y la crítica, hay una situación de cliché con las escenas de acción que compartieron aquí; de verdad hace perder el sentido y se siente diferente a todo lo que se esperaba de ella. Aunque con todo esto, aún estamos esperando que se confirme y llegue su segunda temporada, pero con lo estrictos que se sabe que es Disney, algunos presumen que la serie está siendo producida en secreto y se presume que pronto estará de vuelta como una sorpresa para el público latino.
Something worth mentioning is the activism present here. Even today, we live with a taboo surrounding substance use, and despite the existence of 420 as a celebration or a reminder of certain struggles, we continue to limit the use of this famous plant without considering its medicinal uses, which are still somewhat limited. I want to remain neutral, but here in Colombia, the medicinal use of the plant has been available to the public for some years now, and one product I particularly like is their arnica cream, which is wonderful for pain relief.
Algo digno de mención es el activismo aquí presente. Aun al día de hoy vivimos en el tabú sobre el uso de sustancias, y a pesar de la existencia del 420 como una celebración o como un recuerdo de algunas luchas, seguimos limitando el uso de la famosa planta sin tomar en cuenta sus usos medicinales, que hasta hoy son un poco limitados. Quiero mantenerme al margen, pero aquí en Colombia el uso medicinal de la planta ha estado desde hace algunos años en la venta al público, y una que me gusta mucho son sus cremas en árnica, que son una maravilla para aliviar el dolor.
I found Mama Cake to be a really fun show, and even though I don't know about your tastes, I wholeheartedly recommend you watch it; you're sure to find at least a few moments of it entertaining.
