That is definitely an interesting one.
It is definitely a skill to be able to listen and not have our egos force us to add to the conversation/interaction to prove our worth/knowledge. The old saying goes we have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason. To listen twice as much as we speak.
I think there are exceptions to that principal. Sometimes, vocalization of an idea turns it from a mental impulse into a transferable message fit for consumption by another with an intellect. Sometimes, I find myself learning while speaking directly, or indirectly with the conversation that happens because of speaking.
Also, in the martial arts sense, when instructing, I find I learn plenty about the details when I have to explain them properly to someone else who is learning. Blessed be the teacher who learns while teaching.
Still, the value of listening cannot be underestimated!
