WaltInAsia 17 - KL and Batu caves at night

One of the first thing I did the first time I came to Kuala Lumpur was the famous Batu Caves. I was coming from Melaka by bus, did my checkin and went straight to see the caves using the KTM train from the city.

The Caves

When I got here, not many people where around, shops were closing down and not many tourist in sight. It was really cool to walk around, I felt like there was a bit of spiritual in the air. I came across a school or church group of young people inside the cave but that about it, I was wondering if I would even be able to go up since it was probably time for closing soon but I did.

I was waiting for a fellow traveler that I met in Melaka and we were going to visit the place together but she got stuck in traffic for more then an hour, she ended up arriving and we went up the big stairs together. It is a really cool experience, you can see why people would put a temple here, there is some magic to the spot inside and the fact that you have to earn your way up by paying with calories does had something, a kind of spiritual journey up.

The cave with nobody inside, light was still on so that was nice :)

The second landmark on our little night trip was of course the Petronas towers, located near KLCC mall and park, if you go to KL you can't miss them.

With took a grab to a mall first in order to get a late night Starbucks, why you ask? I am not sure 😅 . When we got to the towers, many people were there, big difference compare to the caves at night, you could see also people offering to take pictures of you as a service in front of the towers. KL Is a really lively city for sure.

Next few days to relax and visit of Thean Hou Temple and Little India.

I went one of the morning to the Chinese temple of Thean Hou Temple, it is at walking distance from little India and KL central which is where I went next, the hill is kind of steep, maybe 35-40 mins walk. I went for an Indian breakfast on the way down after the Chinese temple.

The last part of this day was the visit of the museum behind KL central and a nice walk to the planetarium where I managed to catch an afternoon show. Also walked to the old KL station to see the buildings around this part of town.

Conclusion

KL is such a cool discovery, I really enjoy my time in the city, even just relaxing, going to mall and having good food is easy here. If you are in Asia then I definitely recommend to check it out, KL is a great city and Malaysia is an amazing country to travel through, easy to catch a last minute bus, train or ferry. You can do a lot of it by land from Singapore to Thailand no problem, at least for the west part of Malaysia, going to Borneo I think you need to fly there.

Bonus tip: Buy a touch and go card, it makes your life a lot easier using public transport in KL and can also be used around Malaysia. Just top up what you need for the trip
