Anchieta High School - Nova Friburgo, State of Rio de Janeiro | Colégio Anchieta - Nova Friburgo, RJ [EN/PT]

As I shared in the previous pin Nova Friburgo Country Club in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I visited the city located in the Região Serrana (mountainous region), far from the famous Copacabana and the beaches.

The city of Nova Friburgo was the first to receive European immigrants, when Brazil was still a monarchy and based in slave workforce. In the XIX century the Jesuits choose there to found this school Colégio Anchieta, the name is an honor to the priest that first evangelized the indigenous people in southeast of Brazil and even compiled an dictionary to help the Portuguese Jesuits to preach using the native language.

As in Pedregulho Housing Complex in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the magnific building is not regular opened as a tourist attraction, it still work as a regular school. We were approved to enter and visit only the external area but just appreciating the scenery and views was worth it.

I can only imagine the kids who study in an environment like this; given the location, I believe that in the past the students even lived there as interns. Nowadays, perhaps the feeling would be like being in a universe similar to that of the Harry Potter books. Don't you think?

Many thanks! Keep safe and good luck again!!

Your visit to Colégio Anchieta offers a unique glimpse into Brazil's history and architecture. Highlighting its non touristy nature adds an element of discovery and the comparison to Hogwarts sparks imagination. It's a great way to showcase a hidden gem..

Thank you for commenting! I also liked to see how the material power of Jesuits still works nowadays. I believe they were important in the colonial era with a worldwide presence, even in Japan, and helped to impose the material and social values and interests of European countries over other nations.
