We Just Wanted to Work Out…

Have you ever been super ready to do something,, like mentally, emotionally, physically ready,, only to find out it’s just not meant to be?? 😁

Well, that was exactly our story at Plaza Libertad today. Sit tight, folks, this one’s both a comedy and a tragedy in gym clothes.

After roaming around the city like curious tourists with slightly sore feet, we decided to wind down (or so we thought) at one of Iloilo’s most iconic and historic spots,, Plaza Libertad..

But wait, it’s not just all trees and pigeons anymore! This place got an upgrade!

A mini playground for the little ones, benches under big shady trees, lamp posts straight out of a romantic movie, and most importantly,, an outdoor gym! 💪

The fitness area looked promising, modern, and slightly intimidating (because, you know, muscles). The last time we came here, we wanted to try it out... but the heat was so intense it felt like the gym equipment itself was doing cardio. So, we skipped it. “Next time,” we said.

And today was that “next time.”

Cool clouds, no sunburn risk, no sweat stains,, perfect conditions for some light (and hopefully fun) workout. We were hyped. We were ready. We even mentally prepared our fake grunts and power poses. 😁💪

Then we got to the gate…

LOCKED 🙃

Right in front of us, in all its bold, ironic glory: a sign that said “UNDER REPAIR.”

What?? Seriously??? 😩

After all that excitement, the gym was still under repair? It felt like getting ghosted by a treadmill. We stared through the green fence like abandoned gym rats, watching the unused machines sitting there silently… mocking us.

We tried to laugh it off. Tried being the keyword.

While we sulked, we noticed the nearby sign with “NO MINORS ALLOWED” and a list of guidelines for the outdoor gym.

Suddenly it all made sense. The gym didn’t break. It probably just saw too many kids climbing on the leg press like it was monkey bars.

Speaking of kids,, just a few steps away was the playground, and wow, that area was very much NOT under repair. Kids were running, sliding, swinging, squealing. It was pure chaos,, happy, sticky, sugar-fueled chaos. Parents were chatting, some were chasing toddlers, others just sat like war veterans at a bench… tired, but proud.

Meanwhile, we grownups had nowhere to unleash our inner fitness beast.

So what did we do?

We sat on a bench. And watched. And judged. Just a little.

Moral of the story? Sometimes the gym breaks before you do. 😆

We’ll be back, Plaza Libertad. Hopefully when the gym’s healed... and so are our broken workout dreams. 😂💔
