Someone donated Bitcoin to the Austrian treasury department in order to start a Bitcoin reserve. They refused the gift.

https://www.derstandard.at/story/3000000280016/das-finanzministerium-bekam-bitcoin-geschenkt-will-sie-aber-nicht-haben

Was sagt ihr dazu?

The Austrian treasury department received Bitcoin as a gift, but does not want it.

Initiative to start a Bitcoin referendum in Austria

https://bitcoin-volksbegehren.at/

English

Christian Friedl, one of the initiators of a Bitcoin referendum in Austria, donated a Bitcoin wallet card (printed by the Austrian State Printing Office) containing 0.00070021 Bitcoin (approx. 72 euros or 1,000 schillings) to the Ministry of Finance in order to lay the foundation for a Bitcoin reserve.

However, the ministry was unsure what to do with the donation and, after inquiring, decided not to accept the gift and to return it. Of course, the ministry is not allowed to accept gifts.

A funny story that was even reported in the Austrian media:

https://www.derstandard.at/story/3000000280016/das-finanzministerium-bekam-bitcoin-geschenkt-will-sie-aber-nicht-haben

What do you think? Is Austria missing out on the digital FinTech future? So far, only 5,500 people are said to have supported the referendum. Why is interest in Bitcoin and crypto so low in Austria?

If it had been 72 billion, we would see if they would have rejected it.

I think it's too late to create reserves in Bitcoin.

Ignorance can make one to throw a bag of gold into the ocean. It's obvious that Austria will bite their finger in future when they come to realize that Bitcoin is a good way to go.

It doesn't make sense to reject it. It only adds more options. I think its just because crypto doesn't get much good news with all the scams.
