London Underground: Only 50% of stations have mobile 4G/5G internet coverage

For years now, London has been promising to expand internet coverage in the Underground. When I was there last month, the situation was still hit or miss. According to official figures, 50% of stations already have 4G or 5G coverage. But with Three UK, the reception isn’t that great even in central stations.

This poster in Baker Street (Bakerloo line) advertised the expansion of the 4G/5G network, but ironically, I had absolutely no reception with Three UK in the station.

In other stations and on the Tube itself, though, it worked more often than not.

Mind-boggling that network coverage in the London Underground still isn’t fully operational. In the Vienna subway, comprehensive 4G network coverage was already established more 10 years ago.

I'd expect that to be a standard nowadays :)

It's curious how some countries that one considers among the most developed in the world end up having strange shortcomings. It happened to me the first time I went to Italy.

Underground tunnels are sometimes getting difficult to find any signal

I just don't think the networks think that it is a priority. Some carriers are just bad, but obviously, I would have preferred if it was available everywhere.
