Die deutsche Regierung möchte eine Zuckersteuer (Zuckerabgabe) auf gesüßte Getränke einführen, ähnlich wie in UK. Auch in Österreich wird die Idee jetzt aufgegriffen, vorerst in den Mainstream-Medien.
Geplant ist eine Abgabe ausschließlich auf gesüßte Getränke, nicht auf Schokolade, Fast Food oder andere Lebensmittel. Zumindest vorerst.
Dabei orientiert sich die Steuer am Zuckergehalt, unter 5g pro 100 ml fällt keine Zuckerstreuer an, ab 5g wären 26 Cent pro Liter angedacht, und ab 8g 32 Cent.
Das würde eine 0.5 Cola-Flasche mit etwa 10g Zucker pro 100ml um 16 Cent verteuern.
In UK beträgt die Steuer übrigens 18 Pence ab 5g und 24 Pence ab 8g Zucker.
Denke nicht, dass wegen ein paar Cent Abgabe die Leute weniger Zucker trinken oder essen werden, sondern es ist eher eine kreative Geldbeschaffungsaktion.
Andererseits könnte die Steuer manche Getränkehersteller dazu bewegen, den Zucker unter die 8 bzw. 5 Gramm-Grenze zu reduzieren, um die Steuer zu senken. Das hätte einen positiven Effekt.
Alternative wäre der Umstieg auf künstliche Süßungsmittel ohne natürlichen Zucker, was allerdings gesundheitlich ebenfalls bedenklich wäre, vor allem wenn man diese Süßungsmittel in hohen Dosen täglich konsumiert.
Kritiker der Zuckersteuer sehen darin auch einen übergriffigen Staat, der zu viele persönliche Bereiche regulieren und besteuern möchte.

The German government wants to introduce a sugar tax on sweetened beverages, similar to the one in the UK. The idea is now gaining traction in Austria as well, at least in the mainstream media.

Oh that's what they'll say in the beginning until they need more revenue to cover bills, then they will hit other sweets before applying carbs; cane sugar, honey, corn syrup, fructose, glucose, dextrose, modified corn starch...
Sowohl in Deutschland als auch in Österreich sollten sie endlich mit dem Geld auskommen das sie einnehmen. Aber wenn man die Steuereinnahmen fleißig verteilen und einen Staatsapparat sich leistet der immer teurer wird kann es sich nicht ausgehen. Sie werden nie genug Geld einnehmen egal welche Steuern sie einführen. Weil wer mit beiden Händen das Geld in der ganzen Welt verteilt, für den wird es nie reichen.

A great idea. People should know that sugar products are taxed in the same way as tobacco. Our consumption of sugar is based on what we learned in childhood. Since then however science discovered that sugar is even worse. Consuming sugar is almost always means overconsumption of carbo, and that means simply making your body old, making your life shorter, you literally destroy your spleen and liver. Fast food is at least food (although it adds to the described effect). Daily getting high on sugar is different.
