Remembrance
We add up all day long
a little happiness, a little beauty,
the sparkle of gems, the height of walls,
spending plans, and future insurance
But have you ever stopped to think
Of all these, which will truly go with us?
Not the watch, which we treasured the most, nor the mansion,
which was more silent than the walls
Not the bank balance,
nor the golden chains of the safe
The one who will go with us,
will be the memory of a love,
which gave courage in difficult times
A forgiveness,
which was given to a stranger
without expecting a response
The compassion which once, more than words, was explained by the eyes
The most valuable asset in life will be that
invested in emotions, sown in actions,
and grown like a seed in someone's heart.
Actions that still linger in our shadows,
those decisions that illuminated someone's life, those silent services,
that sustained someone's world for a little while
Today, as we engage in accumulation,
are we accumulating something that will survive death?
Because in the end
We won't count our possessions and savings,
We'll remember that one window
where we sat and drank tea with someone.
