My Prague & Vienna Tour - Part 4: Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and Dancing House, Prague, Czechia [ENG-TUR]

As I mentioned in my previous travel posts, I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods. I want to discover new places at homeland or abroad as much as possible. Before the pandemic, I traveled abroad every year. However, the pandemic caused millions of people, including me, to change their travel plans for at least 2 years. After the pandemic, it was time for me to start traveling abroad. Last year, I did this by going to Thessaloniki, Greece. I made some changes for the third choice of my international travel in this year. I visited the capitals of Czechia and Austria. I will write about Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and Dancing House in the fourth part of my Prague & Vienna travel posts series.

Önceki seyahat yazılarımda da belirttiğim gibi otel, deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil anlayışını sevmiyorum. Yurtiçinde veya yurtdışında mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Pandemiden önce her yıl yurtdışı seyahatleri yapan biriydim. Fakat, pandemi benim gibi dünyada milyonlarca insanların seyahat planlarını en az 2 yıl değiştirmesine sebep oldu. Pandemiden sonra benim için artık yurtdışı seyahatlerime başlamanın zamanı gelmişti. Geçen sene bunu Yunanistan’ın Selanik şehrine giderek gerçekleştirdim. Bu yılki üçüncü yurtdışı seyahat tercihimde biraz değişiklik yaptım. Çekya ve Avusturya’nın başkentlerini ziyaret ettim. Prag & Viyana gezi yazısı serimin dördüncü bölümünde sizlere, Prag Kalesi, Karl Köprüsü ve Dans Eden Ev’den bahsedeceğim.

After resting for a while in the forest park, I continued my walk towards Prague Castle. I could see Prague Castle from the forest park, but I still had a long way to go. Frankly, I didn't know how to get there. I started following the people walking in that direction :) Finally, I came to the entrance of the forest. I guessed that the forest led to Prague Castle. Two people passed in front of me and started walking into the forest, so I followed them.

Orman parkında biraz dinlendikten sonra Prag Kalesi’ne doğru yürüyüşe devam ettim. Orman parkından Prag Kalesi’ni görebiliyordum, ama daha yürüyecek çok yolum vardı. Açıkcası oraya nasıl gidileceğini bilmiyordum. O tarafa doğru yürüyen insanları takip etmeye başladım : ) En son ormanın girişine geldim. Ormanın içinden Prag Kalesi’ne çıkıldığını tahmin ettim. Önümden iki kişi geçti ve ormanın içine doğru yürümeye başladı, ben de onları takip ettim.

My sixth sense didn’t surprise me. I had come to the foothills of Prague Castle, where there are colorful houses and narrow streets. I would also like to thank the two men who went ahead of me : ) I had to walk uphill. For some reason, I thought this slope was similar to the slope we climbed to the Galata Tower in Istanbul. It was called the Lesser City. The crowd of people increased as we went up. There were both tourist groups and individual visitors who came to see Prague Castle. I had come all the way to Hradcany Square. I rested here for a while and took some photos. From here, you could see the whole Prague Old Town, but the view was not clear because it was foggy.

Altıncı hissim beni yanıltmamıştı. Rengarenk evlerin ve dar sokakların olduğu Prag Kalesi’nin eteklerine çıkmıştım. Önden giden iki arkadaşa da teşekkür ederim : ) Yokuş yukarı yürümem gerekiyordu. Bu yokuşu nedense İstanbul’daki Galata Kulesi’ne çıktığımız yokuşa benzettim. Buraya Küçük Şehir deniliyormuş. Yukarı çıktıkça insan kalabalığı artıyordu. Prag Kalesi’ni görmeye gelen hem turist grupları hem de bireysel ziyaretçiler vardı. Hradcany Meydanı’na kadar gelmiştim. Burda biraz dinlenip fotoğraf çektim. Buradan tüm Prag Eski Şehir görünüyordu amah ava puslu olduğu için manzara net değildi.

The entrance to Prague Castle was from the left side of Hradcany Square; the main entrance, the Matthias Gate, was used as the exit. I entered from the left side and came directly to the second courtyard of the castle. There is the Chapel of the Holy Cross and a fountain in the center of the courtyard in the second courtyard. There is also a museum here with paintings from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and the offices of the Czech President.

Prag Kalesi’ne girişler Hradcany Meydanı’nın sol tarafından yapılıyordu; ana giriş kapısı olan Matthias kapısı, çıkış kapısı olarak kullanıyordu. Sol taraftan giriş yaptım ve direk kalenin ikinci avlusuna geldim. İkinci avluda Kutsal Haç Şapeli ve avlunun merkezinde bir çeşme bulunmakdatır. Burada ayrıca Rönesans ve Barok dönemlerine ait resimlerin olduğu müze ile Çekya Cumhurbaşkanı’nın makam odaları da vardır.

As you pass from the second courtyard to the third courtyard, you will see the huge Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral. I stopped at the entrance to the third courtyard and took some photos of this beautiful cathedral. Since the courtyard was crowded, I must say that I waited a while to take some proper photos. I left the crowd and continued walking to the left of the cathedral.

İkinci avludan üçüncü avluya geçerken sizi gothik yapıdaki devasa Aziz Vitus Katedral’i karşılıyor. Üçüncü avlunun girişinde durdum ve bu güzel kathedralin fotoğraflarını çektim. Avlu kalabalık olduğu için uygun fotoğraflar çekmek için biraz bekledim diyebilirim. Kalabalıktan çıkıp kathedralin solundan yürümeye devam ettim.

The back of the Vitus Cathedral leads to St. George’s Square. Here are the Romanesque Basilica and Monastery of St. George. The Prague Castle complex can be seen clearly from this square and from the left of the square. I went to the left of the cathedral, namely the Great South Tower. I stayed here for about half an hour and took photos of this magnificent cathedral from different angles. In the meantime, it was 1 o’clock and the cathedral bells had started to ring. I wanted to go inside the cathedral, but I gave up because there was a queue for meters at the entrance and I had limited time for my Prague Old Town tour.

Vitus Kathedrali’nin arka tarafı Aziz George Meydanı’na çıkıyor. Burada Aziz George’nin roman tarzında yapılmış Bazilikası ve Manastırı yer almaktadır. Bu meydandan ve meydanın solundan Prag Kale kompleksi gayet net görünebilmektedir. Kathedralin bana göre soluna, yani Büyük Güney Kule tarafına geçtim. Yaklaşık yarım saat burada kaldım ve bu görkemli kathedralin farklı açılardan fotoğraflarını çektim. Bu arada saat 1’e gelmişti ve kathedralin çanları çalmaya başladı. Kathedralin içine girmek istedim, ama girişte metrelerce kuyuk olduğu için vazgeçtim çünkü Prag Eski Şehir turu için zamanım kısıtlıydı.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world. Until the Cold War period after World War II, its construction began in the 9th century and many structures were added to the 70,000 m² area where the castle is located.

Guinness Rekorlar Kitabı’na göre Prag Kalesi, Dünya’daki en büyük antik kaledir. Yapımına 9. Yüzyılda başlanılmış ve kalenin bulunduğu 70.000 m² alana II. Dünya Savaşı’ndan sonraki Soğuk Savaş dönemine kadar birçok yapıt eklenmiştir.

Leaving Prague Castle, I continued walking towards the Old Town. Perhaps, I was in the most enjoyable part of walking in Prague Old Town. Walking down this road, I would cross the Charles Bridge, another bridge built over the Vltava River. As I walked towards the bridge, I passed by the Holy Trinity Column and St. Nicholas Church.

Prag Kalesi’nden ayrılarak Eski Şehre doğru yürümeye devam ettim. Belki de Prag Eski Şehir’de yürümenin en keyifli yerindeydim. Bu yoldan aşağı doğru yürüyerek Vltava Nehri üzerine kurulmuş bir başka köprü olan Karl Köprüsü’nden geçecektim. Köprüye doğru yürürken Kutsal Üçlü Sütunu ve Aziz Nikolas Kilisesi’nin yanından geçtim.

St. Nicholas Church

After about 10 minutes of walking, I arrived at the entrance of the Charles Bridge. Even from the tower at the entrance of the bridge, you can feel the historical Middle Ages atmosphere. I started walking slowly on this stone bridge built in the Gothic style. There were statues placed at certain intervals on the right and left of the bridge. I tried to take pictures of all of them. There were also a lot of people passing by the bridge. Thus, it was not easy to take photo. There are street artists, who draws caricatures of people, next to the statues on the bridge. It is possible to catch very beautiful views on the Charles Bridge, where you can see Prague Castle and the Vltava River in the same frame. There are street artists playing interesting music at the exit of the bridge towards the Old Town or under the tower.

Yaklaşık 10 dakikalık yürüyüşün ardından Karl Köprüsü’nün girişine gelmiştim. Daha köprünün girişindeki kuleden bile o tarihi Orta Çağ havasını alıyorsunuz. Bu Gothik tarzda yapılmış taş köprü üstünde yavaş yavaş yürümeye başladım. Köprünün sağında ve solunda belirli aralıklarla konulmuş heykeller vardı. Hepsinin fotoğrafını çekmeye çalıştım. Köprüden geçen insan sayısı da oldukça fazlaydı. Dolaysıyla fotoğraf çekmek hiç kolay olmadı. Köprünün üzerindeki heykellerin yanında insanların karikatur resimlerini çizen sokak sanatçıları var. Karl Köprüsü üstünde, Prag Kalesi ve Vltava Nehri’ni aynı karede görebileceğiniz çok güzel manzaralar yakalamak mümkün. Köprünün Eski Şehre doğru olan çıkışı veya kulesinin altında ilginç müzikler çalan sokak sanatçıları var.

There is the Church of St. Salvator at the bridge’s exit to the Old Town. Strangely, the churches I passed in the Old Town of Prague had admission fees, but this church was open to the public. It wouldn’t be okay not to visit a Catholic church while in Prague.

Köprünün eski şehire olan çıkışında Aziz Salvator Kilisesi bulunmaktadır. İlginçtir ki Prag Eski Şehir’de önünden geçtiğim kiliselere giriş ücretliydi, ama bu kilise halka açıktı. Prag’a gelmişken bir Katolik kilisesine girmemek olmazdı.

After leaving the church I started walking towards the Old Town Square, but there was one place I forgot to see. It was near the third bridge after Charles Bridge, that is, in the New Town. I didn't want to walk there because I was too tired, so I took a tram and reached my destination in five minutes. It was the Dancing House.

Kiliseden ayrıldıktan sonra Eski Şehir Meydanı’na doğru yürümeye başladım, ama görmeyi unuttuğum bir yer vardı. O da, Karl Köprüsü’nden sonraki üçüncü köprüye yakındı, yani yeni şehirdeydi. Çok yorulduğum için oraya yürümek istemedim ve bir tramvaya binerek beş dakika içinde hedefime vardım. Orası Dans Eden Ev idi.

The first building here was bombed during World War II and then abandoned. After the establishment of Czechoslovakia, the building was restored by a Croatian and a Canadian architect. The restoration of the building was inspired by the two dancing figures Fred and Ginder. The Dancing House, which is at the beginning of the Jiráskův Bridge, is easy to reach.

Burdaki ilk yapı II. Dünya Savaşı esnasında bombalanmış ve daha sonra terk edilmiştir. Çekoslovakya’nın kurulmasından sonra bina, bir Hırvat ve bir Kanadalı mimar tarafından restore edilmiştir. Binanın restorasyonunda dans eden iki figür Fred ve Ginder’den esinlenmiştir. Jiráskův Köprüsü’nün başlangıcında olan Dans Eden Ev’e ulaşım kolaydır.

I can't ignore the buildings on the street leading to the Dancing House, overlooking the Vltava River. As seen in the photos these colorful Gothic and Baroque buildings look very beautiful when the evening sun hits them. I can also say that trams pass in front of these buildings every two minutes.

Dans Eden Ev’e giden cadde üzerinde olan ve Vltava Nehri’ne bakan binaları es geçemeyeceğim. Fotoğraflarda da göründüğü gibi Gothic ve Barok niteliğinde olan bu rengarenk binalara akşam güneşi vurduğu zaman bu binalar çok güzel bir görüntü veriyor. Ayrıca bu binaların önünden iki dakikada bir tramvaylar geçiyor diyebilirim.

My tour of exploring Prague Old City, which I started by walking at around nine in the morning, ended here. I had chosen to walk so as not to miss any details, but there were places and buildings that I had not seen or missed. Since I was quite tired, I had a nice dinner in the evening and went to the hotel to rest. See you in the next post of my Prague & Vienna tour. All the photos in this post belong to me.
