Nigeria @ 65 – Independence Day (Oct 1st)
October 1st na always special day for us wey dey Nigeria. Na the day we free from colonial rule back in 1960. And now we dey 2025, 65 years don waka pass. Every October 1st no be just public holiday, e dey remind us where we come from and how far we don manage reach as people.
For me, Independence Day no just be about raising green white green flag or dey watch parade for TV. The thing deep pass that. E dey about remembering the wahala wey bring us here, thanking God for wetin we get today, and still holding small hope say tomorrow go better.
Nigeria at 65, I dey see country wey don get him fair share of wahala, yes. But I dey also see people wey strong, stubborn, and full of spirit. Nigeria no small o. We get over 200 million people, more than 250 tribes, and languages wey too plenty to count. Sometimes our difference dey scatter us small, but for October 1st, you go see unity for our color, our music, our food, and our smiling faces.
As pikin, October 1st get him own vibe. Schools dey do parade, students go wear green and white uniform, marching to drum beat. Anytime national anthem dey play, goosebumps dey enter body. For house, mama go cook jollof rice with fried meat, sometimes puff-puff for the small children. Small flags go dey everywhere cars, okada, even shop front. The whole day dey carry pride and togetherness for air.
Now wey Nigeria don reach 65 years, I no dey see the day as just party. I dey see am like reflection too. We dey ask ourselves: wetin we don achieve? where we dey go? wetin we fit do better for the children wey dey come? October 1st na also day of prayer make future Nigeria carry more peace, more chance for people, and more unity pass the past.
The thing wey dey inspire me pass for Naija na the spirit of the people. No matter how hard e be politics, economy wahala, daily struggle Nigerians no dey ever stop hustle. We no dey stop to laugh. We no dey stop to dream. That joy and energy na wetin dey push us forward.
So today October 1st, as we dey celebrate Nigeria @ 65, I no dey just celebrate history or flag. I dey celebrate the normal Nigerians wey dey make country be wetin e be, the market women, bus conductor, students, artist, farmer, and all the hustlers wey dey give Naija her real strength.
Happy Independence Day my beloved country Nigeria. May green-white-green always dey remind us say freedom na treasure, unity na power, and tomorrow fit shine better pass yesterday.
