Hola comunidad @ladiesofhive, nuevamente con ustedes con un nuevo capítulo de las Cosas pequeñas que me sostienen.

Hay días en los que una está físicamente en un lugar, pero mentalmente en muchos otros al mismo tiempo.

Pensando en pendientes.

En preocupaciones.

En cosas que quedaron sin resolver.

En lo que hay que hacer mañana, la próxima semana o incluso dentro de varios meses.

Y casi sin darse cuenta, el presente queda relegado a un segundo plano.

Hace unos días me ocurrió algo muy sencillo que me hizo reflexionar sobre eso.

Estaba haciendo una fila para realizar un trámite. No era una espera especialmente larga, pero sí una de esas situaciones en las que la mente aprovecha para repasar una lista interminable de pensamientos.

Mientras avanzaba lentamente, yo estaba completamente absorta en mis propias ideas.

Pensaba en algunas responsabilidades del trabajo.

En varias cosas que tenía pendientes.

Y también en esas pequeñas preocupaciones cotidianas que parecen acumularse sin pedir permiso.

Fue entonces cuando sentí que alguien me observaba.

Levanté la vista y descubrí que una mujer sostenía a un niño pequeño en brazos.

El niño me estaba mirando fijamente.

No parecía tímido.

Tampoco parecía confundido.

Simplemente me observaba con toda la atención del mundo.

Por un instante me sorprendió la intensidad de aquella mirada.

Y entonces ocurrió algo muy simple.

Me sonrió.

Una sonrisa amplia.

Espontánea.

Completamente sincera.

De esas que solo los niños muy pequeños parecen capaces de regalar sin motivo alguno.

Instintivamente le sonreí también.

Y él respondió sonriendo todavía más.

Incluso soltó una pequeña risita antes de esconderse por un momento en el hombro de su madre y volver a asomarse para mirarme otra vez.

Todo aquello duró apenas unos segundos.

Nada más.

Sin embargo, cuando la fila siguió avanzando, me di cuenta de que algo había cambiado.

Las preocupaciones seguían allí.

Los pendientes seguían existiendo.

Nada de eso había desaparecido.

Pero durante unos instantes mi atención había salido de ese círculo constante de pensamientos para detenerse en algo mucho más simple.

Y mucho más presente.

A veces pienso que los adultos vivimos demasiado tiempo entre lo que ocurrió ayer y lo que podría ocurrir mañana.

Los niños, en cambio, parecen habitar completamente el momento que tienen delante.

No necesitan una razón para sonreír.

No calculan si es oportuno hacerlo.

No analizan si el gesto será correspondido.

Simplemente viven el instante.

Y quizás por eso una sonrisa infantil puede tener tanto efecto en nosotros.

Porque nos recuerda una forma de mirar el mundo que muchas veces dejamos atrás sin darnos cuenta.

Hay días en los que el mundo parece más pesado de lo habitual.

Y entonces alguien que apenas está comenzando a descubrirlo nos recuerda, sin decir una sola palabra, que todavía existe espacio para la alegría más sencilla.

Hello @ladiesofhive community, once again I am here with a new chapter of Small Things That Sustain Me.

There are days when we are physically in one place, but mentally in many others at the same time.

Thinking about responsibilities.

About worries.

About unfinished tasks.

About what needs to be done tomorrow, next week, or even months from now.

And without realizing it, the present moment quietly slips into the background.

A few days ago, something very simple happened that made me reflect on this.

I was standing in line to complete an errand. It was not an especially long wait, but it was one of those moments when the mind decides to review an endless list of thoughts.

As the line moved slowly, I was completely absorbed in my own concerns.

I was thinking about work responsibilities.

Several things I still needed to do.

And those everyday worries that seem to accumulate without asking permission.

Then I felt that someone was looking at me.

I looked up and noticed a woman holding a small child in her arms.

The child was staring at me.

He did not seem shy.

Nor confused.

He was simply looking at me with complete attention.

For a moment, I was surprised by the intensity of that gaze.

And then something very simple happened.

He smiled.

A wide smile.

Spontaneous.

Completely sincere.

The kind of smile that only very young children seem capable of giving without any reason at all.

Instinctively, I smiled back.

And he responded with an even bigger smile.

He even let out a small laugh before hiding briefly against his mother's shoulder and then peeking out again to look at me.

The whole moment lasted only a few seconds.

Nothing more.

Yet when the line started moving again, I realized that something had changed.

The worries were still there.

The responsibilities still existed.

None of that had disappeared.

But for a few moments, my attention had stepped away from that constant stream of thoughts and settled on something much simpler.

And much more present.

Sometimes I think adults spend too much time living between what happened yesterday and what might happen tomorrow.

Children, on the other hand, seem to live completely in the moment they are experiencing.

They do not need a reason to smile.

They do not calculate whether it is the right time.

They do not wonder whether the gesture will be returned.

They simply live the moment.

And perhaps that is why a child's smile can affect us so deeply.

Because it reminds us of a way of seeing the world that many of us gradually leave behind.

There are days when the world feels heavier than usual.

And then someone who is only beginning to discover it reminds us, without saying a single word, that there is still room for the simplest kind of joy.
