Hola comunidad @ladiesofhive, nuevamente con ustedes con el vigésimo tercer capítulo de las Cosas pequeñas que me sostienen.

A veces pensamos que los momentos que recordamos durante años tienen que ser grandes acontecimientos.

Pero no siempre es así.

Hay ocasiones en las que todo lo que permanece en la memoria son unos pocos segundos.

Un gesto breve.

Una pequeña decisión que para quien la tomó probablemente no significó demasiado, pero que para otra persona terminó significándolo todo.

Hace algún tiempo salía del trabajo cuando el cielo decidió cambiar de opinión de golpe.

Hasta ese momento parecía una tarde normal, pero en cuestión de minutos comenzó a caer una lluvia intensa.

De esas que obligan a buscar refugio o resignarse a llegar completamente empapada.

Yo llevaba algunas cosas conmigo y apresuré el paso con la esperanza de encontrar transporte antes de que la lluvia empeorara.

Fue entonces cuando vi un taxi colectivo detenido unos metros más adelante.

Varias personas estaban subiendo y enseguida pensé lo mismo que cualquiera habría pensado:

"Ya lo perdí."

Aun así seguí caminando rápido.

Después aceleré un poco más.

Y finalmente terminé casi corriendo bajo la lluvia.

Mientras me acercaba, vi cómo las últimas personas terminaban de subir.

Estaba convencida de que el taxi arrancaría en cualquier momento.

Pero no lo hizo.

El conductor miró por el retrovisor.

Me vio acercarme.

Y esperó.

No un minuto.

No cinco.

Probablemente apenas unos segundos más.

Los suficientes.

Llegué jadeando, subí y le di las gracias.

Entonces él respondió con total naturalidad:

—Tranquila, te vi venir.

Nada extraordinario.

Nada heroico.

Simplemente una pequeña muestra de consideración.

Y sin embargo, recuerdo aquel momento con mucho cariño.

Porque podría haber arrancado.

Nadie lo habría criticado.

Nadie le habría reclamado nada.

Yo era una desconocida más en medio de una tarde lluviosa.

Pero decidió esperar.

Y creo que ahí está precisamente lo que me sigue pareciendo valioso.

A veces asociamos la empatía con las personas cercanas.

Con amigos.

Con familiares.

Con quienes nos conocen bien.

Sin embargo, algunas de las muestras de amabilidad que más nos acompañan vienen de personas que no saben absolutamente nada de nosotros.

Personas que probablemente nunca volveremos a ver.

Quizás por eso dejan tanta huella.

Porque nos recuerdan que todavía existe la posibilidad de encontrarnos con humanidad en los lugares más cotidianos.

Y que, a veces, unos pocos segundos pueden cambiar por completo el tono de un día.

Hello @ladiesofhive community, once again with the twenty-third chapter of Small Things That Sustain Me.

Sometimes we think that the moments we remember for years must be major events.

But that is not always true.

There are times when what stays with us is only a few seconds.

A brief gesture.

A small decision that may not have meant much to the person who made it, yet ended up meaning a great deal to someone else.

Some time ago, I was leaving work when the sky suddenly changed its mind.

Until then, it had seemed like a normal afternoon, but within minutes a heavy rain began to fall.

The kind of rain that forces you to find shelter or accept that you are about to get completely soaked.

I was carrying a few things with me and quickened my pace, hoping to find transportation before the rain became even worse.

That was when I saw a shared taxi stopped a short distance ahead.

Several people were already getting in, and immediately I thought what anyone in my place would have thought:

"I missed it."

Even so, I kept walking quickly.

Then I sped up a little more.

And eventually I was almost running through the rain.

As I got closer, I saw the last passengers getting inside.

I was completely certain the taxi would leave at any moment.

But it didn't.

The driver looked in the rearview mirror.

He saw me coming.

And he waited.

Not for a minute.

Not for five.

Probably only a few extra seconds.

Just enough.

I arrived out of breath, got in, and thanked him.

He simply replied:

—Don't worry, I saw you coming.

Nothing extraordinary.

Nothing heroic.

Just a small act of consideration.

And yet, I still remember that moment fondly.

Because he could have driven away.

No one would have blamed him.

No one would have questioned him.

I was just another stranger on a rainy afternoon.

But he chose to wait.

And I think that is exactly what still feels meaningful to me.

We often associate empathy with people who are close to us.

Friends.

Family.

People who know us well.

Yet some of the kindest gestures we experience come from people who know absolutely nothing about us.

People we will probably never see again.

Maybe that is why those moments stay with us for so long.

Because they remind us that humanity can still appear in the most ordinary places.

And that sometimes, a few extra seconds can completely change the tone of an entire day.
