Hotpot In The Supermarket - Wu Da Lang Old Hot Pot

Hi all, we are back again at the amazing food court that is found within the supermarket. We have uncovered a few gems within this food court and today, I am back here with my wife to enjoy some steamboat.

Similar to our previous hunts within this food court that sits right in the middle of a supermarket, this food court never fail to load us up with surprises. Today will be trying out the biggest stall of this food court - Wu Da Lang Old Hot Pot.

That day when we had this, we were famished and wanted eat a little more than usual. I told my wife maybe we should give this stall a try since we do see many people getting this.

This steamboat stall functions like a buffet counter that has food surrounding it, with the only thing is that if you do need more, you will have to take the additional items to the counter to pay instead of paying everything altogether like in a typical hot pot outlet. This is definitely more food court style.

And here's what we've gotten:

The food around the shop are being priced based on the colour of the container they are in, with red being the cheapest follow by green and then white. While meats are being ordered by getting a wooden peg to indicate what kind of meat to get. Something great that is done here is that, the meat is only sliced into the thin slices only upon order instead of other places where it could be pre-prepared in the thinner slices. The meat here are definitely looking fresher and firmer than those places that already prepare before hand.

And right now I will dive into each of the components that we've ordered.

Soup
Didn't get a specific photo out to the soup but it can be seen from the picture above that speaks alot about the quality of the soup that is being used for the hotpot. Most hotpot shops that are of the more budget options, the soup tend to be very clear which tells of dilution of the soup and when you try to savour the soup, it might just be flavoured water but you cannot taste the richness of the soup. Whereas for the soup served here, you can see how thick it is and show no signs of dilution. Be it the tomato soup (red one) or the pork bone soup (brown one), both were exceptional as you can taste the ingredients and the fullness of the condensed soup that is created through long hours of simmering the ingredients.

Meat

I have to be honest, the meat was a little over ordered as we did not knew how big the portion is. The portions were huge and we had a very satisfying time enjoying the 3 different kind of meat. The first one being the usual pork belly which is sliced nice and thin but not overly thin. Next is the beautifully marbled beef that is so tender on every bite when we dipped it into the soup to get it cooked. Last is the lamb that looks really nice, this is surprisingly good with nice texture after dipping into the soup.

The quality of the meat is really good. Hard to find such good meat at hot pot places because typically they will use a slightly lower grade meat as opposed to this where they only serve good quality meat. If there is something that one must come back to this place for, it will be the meat. Big portions, good quality meat at a very friendly price that will not create a big hole in your wallet.

Other Items

On top of the meats, we also gotta have some vegetables and other hot pot items such as fish balls, seafood toufu and some beancurd skin to make it complete. Every item looking really fresh and portions were reasonable in their respective price range. As I was there a little later than usual dinner time, the choices of these ingredients were less than what they usually had as they were wiped out by other customers. But thankfully, there were still a good amount of them for me to pick and make sure I will not end up eating a meat hot pot that only has meat.

Closing
Another great find in the food court located within the supermarket which gives me many more options for food so that I will have a big variety to choose from. I am really thankful that we are seeing more amazing food places popping out within my neighbourhood and definitely hope they can sustain their business and bring joy and satisfaction to more residents here. An amazing hot pot stall that serves amazing quality ingredients with generous portions that does not cost a bomb to enjoy.
