Community Engagement Challenge: Campaign Mode And Foundation Cards Arrive

Prelude
Hi all, good day to all of you. It's time again for Community Engagement Challenge. There is a big change that happened during the week that actually caught me by surprise and I would like to share more about it with you guys.

Where Did All The Starter Cards Go?
It all happened after the weekly maintenance and suddenly all the starter cards went missing and I got stuck with a match that I did not have a death splinter archon to lead the team which resulted in me surrendering the match. I wasn't paying attention to the maintenance notes and that led me to find out that there is actually a new campaign mode and with the launch of campaign mode, there goes all the starter cards as there is an opportunity to earn foundation cards.

While in the past, we learn how to play just through the tutorial, this time round with the new campaign mode, it is acting like an academy where it coaches new player how to set their lineup and what cards should be placed at which position. I really like this initiative by the developers as this will give a good jump start to new players. And not only that, the cards we used during campaign mode can be earned and added to our collection. How cool is that?

Campaign Mode Navigation
In this segment, I will run you through how to access campaign mode and how we are able to step by step clear it.

To access campaign mode, click on play and you will be able to find campaign mode right in the middle:

And upon clicking on it, you will see Book 1, Waur Medge Academy available:

There a total of 11 chapters available so do check them out one by one and at the end of each chapter, you will be able to earn some foundation cards for use in your ranked battle.

At the end of the campaign, you will be able to earn a total of 38 foundation cards across all splinter colours and a total 1100 Glint which will new players to open some common draw from the rewards shop to have a bigger collection for use.

The campaign is not difficult, just follow through the instructions and you will be able to clear them with a breeze.

Foundation Cards

A little more information here on foundation cards:

  • Playable in all formats except survival mode (yes, you can use them in brawls... wooohoo)
  • At this moment it is Soulbound. Cannot be traded, sold, burned or combined
  • 0 collection power
  • 0 production value on land
  • Can be used to earn glint and SPS (if you have SPS staked) without the usual starter card penalty

The situation above is just for phase 1 and more exciting phase 2 will come that will have

  • More chapters for Book 1
  • Foundation cards will become tradeable and sellable
  • Foundation booster packs
  • Cards will become combinable

This means that foundation cards are essentially a new set that can be developed and levelled up. I like how this is going as it actually ease the curve for new players as they dive into Splinterlands and learn their know how and will be able to obtain some cards that can grow with them.

At this moment what we have on foundation is:

Fire: 8 cards (1 Archon + 7 cards)
Water: 6 cards (1 Archon + 5 cards)
Earth: 7 cards (1 Archon + 6 cards)
Life: 6 cards (1 Archon + 5 cards)
Death: 6 cards (1 Archon + 5 cards)
Neutral: 5 cards

A nice mix with Fire and Earth having a little more love the rest.

There are some really good cards in the set such as:

Time Bandit (Dwarf) - Magic attacker with cleanse and good with fire splinter dwarf archon
Ash Archer (Elf) - Ranger attacker with 2 damage and can use the ability boost from bloodline from the earth splinter elf archon
Vengeful Monk (Human) - 2 attack melee card with opportunity

At level 1, these are good utility cards that we can use and put in some good utility on the battlefield. More interesting days to come. These cards have integrated into my collection and will be called upon to the battlefield as per when they fit the ruleset and mana requirement.

Wrap Up
Thank you for coming by my post and reading my sharing on the sharing of the new campaign mode and the foundation cards that come along with it. While starter cards are no longer available, the foundation cards make up the voids in our lineup and can even participate in brawls without any rewards being downsized for using starter cards. I am looking forward to phase of the campaign mode where there will be booster packs and cards can be combined to higher levels. While they may not be as strong as normal set cards, foundation cards are still integral to the success of players.
