Adapting to Modern: Getting to Know Your Rebellion Core Set Part 12

Prelude
A brand new week has started and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern where I look at how I crossed over from playing in Wild Battles till today focusing and getting more cards on Modern Battles, sharing with the community the struggles, the strategies and things I do to move towards playing in Modern. Gosh, while I am still on Rebellion core, there are so many new cards revealed on Conclave Arcana which I can't wait to review and with the new game mechanics, this will be something that I will deep dive once we are done with the core set for Rebellion to know how we can merge and assemble a crazy lineup to form the new meta.

Rebellion Core Set Cards

Similar to the previous post for this series, we will begin discussing card from the Rebellion Core Set. Using a similar method when I reviewed the Soul Bound reward cards, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and will give a simple review to whether or not investing into them will level up your game play or not. And let's continue our review and progressing into earth splinter by looking at 2 of the common cards cards from the Rebellion core set as we have completed water splinter.

Lurking Puffer

The first earth splinter common card that we will reviewing today will be Lurking Puffer. This is an attack-less card but with rather decent stats and good abilities for just a mere 2 mana. But definitely, this card should not be played as it is, but rather, this is a card that needs to be playing alongside cards that can maximize its potential - cards with Weapons Training. When paired with cards such as Moxian Rebel, the card comes to life and able to start attacking. I do think this card is really useful considering how easy it is able to be embeded into lineup with its low cost and at level 5 onwards, silence is good to suppress overall magic attack and even at final level, it gains poison which I think is really good to add onto a match where there might be hard stats to overcome. Good card to have if you got a weapon training card to unable this.

Blackmoor Trickster

The next card we will look at will be Blackmoor Trickster. As compared to the other card that we see earlier, this is another card where its stats hit the roof in terms of health but unfortunately the attack stats cap at 2. This card on the ability front is not as exciting as Lurking Puffer with only Snare to look forward to. Nothing much to call out here for this card, a generally fuss free card with close range to ensure it can still hit even at first position. A decent card but not something out of this world.

Assessment
2 common cards, simple cards with somehow Lurking Puffer having the edge in terms of ability but more playable only when weapon training, otherwise the utility of the card will not be as good.

Rating wise for both the cards, I would say Lurking Puffer would probably score a rating of 3.5/5, the assessment for this card is at such a score is because of the need for weapons training, otherwise by itself it is just a 2 mana meat shield which unlikely to give more value than just taking hits. For Blackmoor Trickster, the rating I would give will be a 2.8/5 stars as this is a card that is just so average and nothing much to talk about. A good addition to the lineup but I not sure how often you would put this card onto your lineup as there are more 3 mana good cards in earth splinter that have bigger utility.

Both cards are good to have but not must haves. So I would say, you can probably consider renting instead.

Wrap Up
I have started looking into the Rebellion core set cards that we need to start building up to prepare for the new set that will be coming in when Chaos Legion gets rotated out. I do hope that with the new set that will be launching soon, we can find back the vibrancy during the prime days where everyone was busy camping for cheap cards or scurrying through the rental market to get cheap rentals. Remember, if you are uncertain, there is training mode available for you to test these card out and try out how it can perform before purchasing or renting.
