Ahh Bruce Willis with hair, it was a different time, it was a simpler time..
The suggestion of the action, attitude and comedy combo are spot on, nowadays it is very unusual to get all three in one package, usually the movie will lean into action and attitude trying to be really edgy with no comedy, or the movie will try to be lighthearted and have plenty of comedy but to hit on all three is rare.
I can't decide whether Willis or Wayans stole the show, I don't think either did, the balance was superb which ultimately made both of them look better by the final take!
There are genuinely too many one liners in this movie, they don't write scripts like this anymore, that being said.. a few personal favourites:
- "I've got bad news, and bad news.. gimme the bad news first!"
- "Now this being the 90's you can't just walk up to a guy and smack him in the face, you gotta say something cool first.."
Interestingly the second one liner actually sums up a large part of the movie, it's never enough to hit the guy, survive the explosion, take a punch or threaten someone.. every single one of those scenarios is an opportunity to say something smart first, which is generally leapt at by all cast members lol.
Superb movie, need to watch it again :)
