Privacy coins are on the rise.
Today, as I do almost every day, I was reading the crypto news, and amidst all the pessimism surrounding the recent declines, a story slipped in that Zcash had reached new highs and surpassed Monero, which is the leading privacy coin, at least until now. I remember having some Zcash coins a while back. In fact, I might still have them in some forgotten wallet on my old laptop.

But the important thing about the news is that privacy coins are on the rise, which seems perfectly logical to me, given recent events that will make them increasingly necessary. It's even possible that some of the major ones will have to add these features if they want to survive and not become instruments of power. Privacy is always associated with crime, but this is a very reductionist way of looking at things. It's a way of thinking imposed by the authorities to maintain control over people without having to make the slightest effort. The police arrested criminals before there were cameras, IDs, or DNA. The reality is that what they're trying to do is tighten their control over people, and that's something we should avoid as a society. Because power can change hands, and you don't want that kind of control over you if the wrong people are in charge.
