Beyond Cursing Leaders: How Prayer and Civic Action Can Heal a Nation

Source
There are so many things that I used to think at times, there are so many things that I used to think at times, and behind these thoughts there are real constant stuff like cursing, bitterness and hatred towards leaders of this country and the fact that they don't even improve the situation of the country. They sometimes leave the country more hopeless, divided and disengaged. Though, prayer is one of the solutions, that is just half of the story.
When public conversation is dominated by insult and a lot of mediocrity, people start to believe nothing can change and no leader is worth engaging with. There has been research that has been done over and over again that shows the high political mediocrity and the lower participation. So people stop voting, they stop organising, they stop holding leaders accountable, they turn to another way.
That vacuum of engagement can lead to bad leaders, even more room for them to misbehave and do whatever they like with public funds, because fewer citizens are watching.
There is no questioning of the authority anymore and there is no demanding a better life. In that sense, cursing the leaders can hurt us as a spiritual person, as a Christian but practically by feeding a culture of resignation instead of responsibility.
So when we don't even curse them again, we just return back to our fate and just say, oh so far this and that is not working in this country now, then the next thing to do is just to resign to our fate. There is power in prayer, yes. Prayer for people of faith is not weakness.
It is a powerful way to cope with hardship and find strength, then stay grounded when life under bad relationship feels overwhelming. Prayer and religious practice can reduce anxiety sometimes and it can strengthen mental resilience and help people maintain hope in difficult times. We've found out through history that whenever people pray, especially the one you can see in the Bible, that whenever people pray they can change the situation of things.
So if I'm trying to tell you that prayer matters, yes it does. It shifts character, softens bitterness and can keep people from being consumed by hatred. But even in faith traditions, prayer was never meant to replace responsibilities.
Healthy societies are built when citizens pray, think and speak wisely and act constructively. Paths include voting and staying informed, not withdrawing in frustration. Peaceful, demanding transparency and the likes and demanding accountability from our leaders will surely help us to bring a lasting solution to a better society.
And when we join hands together to build strong communities that support one another through hardship, prayer can guide this action so they are rooted in love, justice and wisdom. Instead of cursing our leaders, there are stronger things that we can do. We can decide to pray for them, for God to give them wisdom and compassion.
Then we can criticize every of their bad actions and talk about their policies among ourselves and point the leaders to the right directions too. But this comes without dehumanizing them. Then we can organize with each other to push for a better society.
That is one thing that we can do that can help this country. If you continually do what you are supposed to do consistently for good sense, it is enough to completely reset your trajectory in almost every area of life, health, money, skills and business. The illusion of nothing is happening is not something that everyone should buy into.
