That 100 to 1 pivot makes your gas example click, but accounting for decimal cents at scale needs tight rounding rules or folks might see weird drift on invoices. As an accountant, i like how Silver Certificates for daily spend and Electronic Gold for bills look's like petty cash vs reserves, clean mental buckets :). The tricky bit is real world cash handling when change is below one cent in physical shops, most card termianls round to the nearest cent, so merchant margins could wobble unless the backend nets it per batch. Counting dust is fine, but nobody wants dust bunnies in the books haha.
