Three Tune Tuesday With The Cars and a Silver Guitar Pick!

Here we are again on another Tuesday, they seem to sneak up on me faster and faster each week. I've not been as active this week as some health reasons slowed me down a bit, but welcome to life! Today before we dive into any music I wanted to share a really cool item I saw recently and would love to own one. Alas, they are sold out everywhere!

APMEX.com

The other day I saw this really cool poured silver one Troy ounce guitar pick that fits perfectly for Three Tune Tuesday. So I had to go ahead and add in in here! It's produced by Shiny Bars and it is hand poured silver, an art that is slowly disappearing from the world sadly. I did see this on APMEX, but they had none in stock and I couldn't find any on eBay at the time. It wouldn't be useful to play with at one solid ounce of silver however, but it sure looks cool doesn't it?

But first off, I want to say thank you to @ablaze for starting and continuing to sponsor this fun weekly event where you can share three songs that you enjoy. One lucky participant will win some HSBI units, you can't have too many of those! So if you don't already participate feel free to jump in, just use the tag #ttt or #threetunetuesday and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @ablaze .

This week I decided to go back to a band from the late 1970's and early 1980's that helped define the rest of the decade. I even recall their guitarist Elliot Easton being voted guitarist of the year back in the day, even beating out Eddie Van Halen. That should tell you something! This band is of course a band from Boston, The Cars.

The Cars were interesting in that they didn't have one dedicated lead singer, splitting the role between Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr. Sadly both have since passed on and may they rest in peace. Elliot Easton was on lead guitar, David Robinson on drums, and Greg Hawkes on keyboards. They were active from 1976 until 1988 before disbanding, but produced some great hits along the way. They did get together in 2011 and produced an album minus Orr who already passed away of pancreatic cancer. They were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2018 and once again reunited for some shows. A truly legendary band!

This first one was release in 1981 and was a top ten hit for the band. This is "Shake It Up" with Ocasek on vocals:

This one is from 1984 called Drive with Benjamin Orr is on vocals. I I featured Paulina Porizkova the Czech supermodel who later married Ocasek. This one is called "Drive":

And this last one came off their 1978 debut album, but is a classic, called "Just What I Needed":

That will do it for me and this Three Tune Tuesday. I hope you enjoyed the music and the silver guitar pick. I really wish I could find one, and afford it too! I hope you're all having a great week, and please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. Thanks for all of your support!

Being a guitar player, this hand poured one ounce Silver pick would be awesome to add to the stack!👍🤗
Sad that not that many people are pouring anymore.......🙄

It would be fun to own one wouldn't it? It is sad that pouring is becoming less and less common though!

It is sad my friend I wonder if it's because of the spot price, or if people are just less interested in pouring custom bars🙄

The Cars……ok, maybe when I was ten. I don’t have that pic, but I do have stuff from Shiny Bars.

A guitar pick!
Yeah, I have the “original” guitar pick by the one and only @losinglouie from 8 years ago. He signed it “RYS” for Rock Your Stack.

I love the Cars. I have a few of their albums on vinyl. They just have such a great sound. There is something really special about them for sure. That pick doesn't look very functional at all, though I am guessing that isn't the point!

I have a few old vinyl albums too, haven't dusted them off in years though! The old vinyl just sounds better than today's stuff does. That pick wouldn't be of any use to play, but it's just really cool! One ounce hand poured silver!

Thanks Ed! They really had a sound of their own and did really well with it.

What I love about these posts is that I learn a lot about different bands and discover songs that I definitely know I'm going to love as a rock fan. The 70s and 80s were definitely the best times for this genre, and these three songs by The Cars are excellent proof of that.

Excellent choice, really.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked today's material. These are always fun to put together, even the one's that came way before my time!

The Cars first two records have more hit singles than most bands greatest hits albums!

Random fact! The first Weezer album was produced by Rick from the Cars, he is reason the 1994 blue album has the sound it does!

With hive so low, here two HSBI’s instead of one this week! Cheers!
