Three Tune Tuesday Featuring a Military Challenge Coin

Another Tuesday is upon us once again! They keep sneaking up on me every single week... Fortunately, I have many of these mostly written up and saved away in my drafts which makes things easier when I have a busy day ahead of me like I do today. This is one I started to put together a couple months back and was considering hanging onto until Veteran's Day in November, but it caught my attention this morning for some reason, so here we go!
First up I want to share a gorgeous challenge coin, which is of course, an electric guitar shape. It is a TTT after all!

To those who have served in the military you are well acquainted with challenge coins. These are given out to members of a specific unit and can be given out for merit or to visiting troops or dignitaries. In my years in the Army I was never attached to a specific unit, I was used to fill in needs when they came up for 90 days at a time. I was in the medical field so I had some nice perks to my contract. However, whenever I would temporarily join a unit in a war zone I usually received one from the unit commander. I collected many over the years and have continued to collect them until this day whenever I find some for sale that interest me.
The one above is one I have always wanted to find, but never had any luck. It's from the 231st Medical Operations Squadron of the Texas Air National Guard out of Fort Sam Houston. I keep my eyes open, but no luck so far... But since it is a very cool guitar challenge coin it fits perfectly for Three Tune Tuesday. Sadly, it's not silver, just brass, but still badass!
But first off, I want to say thank you to @ablaze for starting and continuing to sponsor this fun weekly event where you can share three songs that you enjoy. One lucky participant will win some HSBI units, you can't have too many of those! So if you don't already participate feel free to jump in, just use the tag #ttt or #threetunetuesday and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @ablaze .
Since I shared this challenge coin it only seems right to share some songs dedicated to military service, I think I've shared all of these in the past. But they are all great songs!

Alice In Chains
Formed in Seattle, Washington in 1987 this band was at the forefront of the grunge music movement along with bands Nirvana and Soundgarden. Their debut album in 1990 called Facelift first brought them to the mainstream, and their sophomore album Dirt in 1992 solidified their standing in the world of rock n' roll. Off of that second album comes this song "Rooster" dedicated the lead singer Jerry Cantrell's father who served in Vietnam and was nicknamed "Rooster":

Metallica
Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981 this legendary heavy metal band has been active for 45 years. They had some great songs in the 1980's but really solidified themselves in the mainstream music with their self-titled "Black" album in 1991. Although it cost over a million dollars to produce it has become one of the best selling albums of all time. This song was released in 1989 as a single as has become a staple in their concerts and a fan favorite. This is "One":

Iron Maiden
Formed in London in 1975 this band rose to prominence after picking up lead singer Bruce Dickinson in 1981. Their subsequent album in 1982 The Number of the Beast shot to the top of the charts with multiple hit songs. They have been a staple of heavy metal music ever since and will be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame this year. This song was release in 1983 on their album Piece of Mind, and in the video you get to see some great early 1980's rock n' roll fashion! lol This is called "The Trooper":

That will wrap up this Three Tune Tuesday with songs dedicated to military service. War is an ugly thing and no one should ever have to experience it, that I can attest to firsthand having been in more than one war zone over the years. Nothing good or glorious comes out of it, just sadness and death... I hope you enjoyed today's selections and please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. As always, thank you for all of your support, it's deeply appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

That is a bad ass challenge coin and some bad ass music my brother. Fingers crossed you get your hands on one some day. Rooster was one of my favorites back in the day.
Rooster was a great song wasn't it? This challenge coin will be tough to find, but I check on eBay every now and again hoping to get lucky. It's a small Air National Guard med unit...
You know, I don't know if I could name a single Iron Maiden song. I'm not even sure I have ever listened to them. It's just one of those bands that was never really on my radar. Anthraxx was the same way.
They are actually a really good band, I never really listened much to them when I was younger. Now I really enjoy a lot of their music, they produced some great heavy metal and have a very talented vocalist. Anthraxx I don't know much by them either, just a few songs I've heard over the years. They were a little more wild!
I might have to check them out a bit more. I just remember the guys in school that used to wear the t-shirts and they weren't really in the same circle as me :)

STOPMetallica is indeed a legendary rock band
That is a very beautiful coin to collect
Loved that guitar coin and how cool was that to get given coins like that. Were they made of silver? Iron Maiden gets the nod for me today. A great ttt this one :)
No, usually iron or bronze on challenge coins. Most today are made of bronze, but it depends on the units budget constraints to buy them. It would be nice if they were silver, but never will be as they come out of government budgets! lol
Maiden had a great song in "The Trooper" didn't they?
Okay, I was wondering hehe then I thought oh maybe they were silver plated. The Trooper really was a great song, I am with you on that hehe.
Shit I love high-releve coins, but this one is supreme hehe. I salivated a bit.

Hey, I've heard of Metallica, but I don't know much about their music. It must be amazing because a lot of people on Hive talk about it. I hope you can get that military coin someday. Good luck with that. And don't stress so much, relax.

Claim: Music serves as a powerful bridge to process and share personal experiences of military service.
00:00 — The post begins by talking about military coins and then about music related to military service.
Why it matters: This post is important to me because it's from a regular Hive user who talks about coins and music, and that's good because there are many people on Web2 that we can attract to Hive who like coins and rock music.
