Splinterlands: Stampeding Calf Can Weaken Your Opponent!

Here in the United States it is Memorial Day, which is a national holiday to remember and honor those military service members who were killed in combat. It's always a somber day for me, having lost several friends to combat in my years in the military. It is, however, a great tradition to remember those who weren't lucky enough to make it home from the wars. Today's post will not focus on military service or loss, as I need a distraction from it!

Some time ago now my friend @dewabrata introduced me to a card that I had pretty much ignored. Talk about a serious oversight on my part! That card is the very useful Stampeding Calf. As a result I went out and bought enough copies to upgrade my card to a level five. I will explain why in a few minutes. I also happened to buy a gold foil copy as well you may have noticed. Why? Because, ironically, it was cheaper than buying the regular foil of the same card at the time. Whether or not that still holds true, I'm not sure. But I didn't complain!
But before we dive into today's featured monster, I did have exiting pull from a Gladius pack after the last brawl. For a long, long time I've been looking for that one extra Quora to upgrade to the next level.

And I finally got the lucky pull!

I was able to upgrade here to level four! Although she only gained one health, it is one more health added onto Quora making her more deadly!
Now back to the card of the day, the small mana Stampeding Calf. When I first saw the card I just didn't see a lot of use for it on my Water team as I mainly use magic attacks. What I failed to realize is that in addition to Charge and level five it picks up a very useful ability, Weaken.

Weaken decreases the health of all the opponent's monsters by one. I love to use double Weaken on my Death teams, but now, I have the option to use in on my Water team with a a very small mana price! You might also notice he picks up Deflect and level eight and an extra attack at level ten. However, since I don't play in Diamond or Champion that won't be doing me any good!

Now to see the little card in action!
You can view the entire battle by clicking this link here.

First off, this is a battle in Modern with a mana cap of 32, so not too high or too low. The ruleset for this particular match is Anemia which can be a bit of a challenge, as it makes the maximum health at the start of battle only four! No matter how strong the monsters would usually be.
For my archon I chose to go with Marlai Singariel as she increases the magic attack of each magic monster on my team by one For my tank I went with something a little atypical outside of Frontier using Asel Alagosdil, why? Just to try out something different... Next up I brought in the legendary Endless Gibbon followed by one of my favorites Mindless Thrall. This is where I decided to sneak in the Stampeding Calf right before I placed Captain Fellblade with it's Strengthen ability . And rounding out the team was the zero mana Maude Stonefoot.
My opponent also chose Marlai Singariel as archon and used the more typical Halfling Refugee as tank. That was followed by Ironwing Juggernaut and then ever nasty Thanalorian Scion. Next came another tough card Abysmal Elemental followed by Ujurak Elder which strengthens the entire team. Last up was the Mindless Thrall, not the best position for the card in my experience. Overall a good team though!
The screenshot above was taken after the buffs had been applied, but before the fighting commenced.

It didn't take long for Captain Fellblade to take out the Mindless Thrall thank goodness. That magic attack is nasty!

By round two this is how things stood. My opponent was down two monsters already, but still had some tough ones to go!

By round three my first and secondary tanks are gone as is my opponent's Ironwing Juggernaut. Now for the tough cards!

Captain Fellblade finally takes out the Abysmal Elemental!

But thanks to Resurgence ability he's back at full health and armor! And in the process takes one health away from every monster on both sides of the board!

And here you get to see the Stampeding Calf take out the Thanalorian Scion, definitely earning it's keep!

And here we are a the start of round four. Looking pretty good for my right now!

And once again Captain Fellblade takes out the Abysmal Elemental, this time for good!

The final deathblow is delivered by the Mindless Thrall! Good game to my opponent! Here the Weaken ability of the Stampeding Calf combined with Strengthen from Captain Fellblade** really helped me overcome the Anemia ruleset. Although my opponent also had Strengthen from the Ujurak Elder if wasn't enough to overcome the Weaken!
The Stampeding Calf can be very useful in the right situations, especially with Anemia. But you have to be careful where you place it.
If you don't yet play Splinterlands, it is a fun game and free to play in Frontier Mode. So give a try, if you haven't joined in on the fun of playing Splinterlands you can join here: https://splinterlands.com?ref=thebighigg

That will do it for this Monday, hard to believe that May is already coming to an end. To those in the US have a great Memorial Day, I'll be remembering my friends who didn't get to come home from the battlefield. The cost of war always leaves a heavy toll...
I do hope you enjoyed the post and please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. As always, thanks for all of your support. It's deeply appreciated! Have a good day everyone!
