Splinterlands: My First Escalation Card, Blue Wyrm Travesty!

This week the new Escalation expansion packs of Conclave Arcana were finally available to be opened. There are only 500K packs available so these cards could turn out to be rather scarce giving them more potential value down the line. It didn't take me long to find some really useful cards to up my game in Modern, so I decided to pick one up. The one I just couldn't resist is Blue Wyrm Travesty.

Why you may ask? There are a couple of reasons I think this one will be very useful to my playing style. I like using water teams, and it happens to be water. Then it also happens to be on the undead variety, this is very useful as I often use a card that activates Bloodline Tribute to undead monsters. Then there is the fact that is it one tough monster with a serious badass attack.

I realized quickly that I would need at least a level three to be of any real utility. So I shopped around and found the gold foil option was less expensive than regular foil. I went ahead and made my buy. I soon realized that level five increases the melee attack to 8, and as the gold foils were priced oddly low the time, so I bought four more and leveled it up. Since then, prices have gone up, so I got very lucky! Just have a look at it's statistics:

It is a very tough card proffering the ability Slow at level three making all the monsters on the opposing team one point slower. The at level ten it also adds Invigorate so monsters on your team can't become exhausted. That's a great ability but way above the level I play at!

However, one more item of business to take care of before we dive into battle. I did do my monthly Hive Power Up Day! I'm on an over two year streak and so I didn't want to break it today. I don't have much liquid Hive, but powered up the minimum to keep the streak alive!

Now onto some battle with my shiny new toy!

Now time for some fun with my new Blue Wyrm Travesty!

You can see the whole battle at the link here.

First off, this is a battle with a mana cap of 58 and no added extra rulesets. That makes things much easier!

After all the buffs are in place, this is how we started out. I used Marlai Singariel as my archon as she increases the magic attack of all monsters on my team. Then I place Wailsworn Specter in first position as it activates the Bloodline Tribute to all the undead monsters on my team upon it's demise. Next up my primary tank was Coralforged which give reach ability to the next monster, which in this case is Blue Wyrm Travesty. You will note it is an undead variety. Next up I rounded out the team with Torrent Sniper, Mindless Thrall which is also undead, and then last up Mystic Scaleweaver.

My opponent chose to use the life archon Incessant Sage granting one additional armor to each monster on the team. The tank was Doomshield Warden granting reach ability to the next monster Leolin Sifu. Rounding out the team were Janni Rebel, Meriput Magician, Caravan Guard, and Calabash Sage. Really not a bad lineup, and those extra shields are going to slow down my Blue Wyrm Travesty!

My opponent's tank goes down early in the first round as does my Wailsworn Specter activating the Bloodline Tribute in both Blue Wyrm Travesty and the Mindless Thrall.

Start of round two, not much has changed quite yet...

Near the end of round two Leolin Sifu is down for the count bringing Janni Rebel to first position. My Coralforged also took a dive.

Near the end of round three things aren't looking good for my opponent, there have been lots of misses thanks to the speed of Blue Wyrm Travesty.

And now it comes to an end...

Mindless Thrall delivers the death blow thanks to the Bloodline Tribute it's pretty much unstoppable!

Great game to my opponent. Definitely not one of the easier opponent's to defeat in my experience!

Five Foundations Packs Opened

As always, I like to share some of my Foundations packs being opened. These five packs I won today in my daily rewards and opened to find some nice surprises inside!

A big surprise was finding a gold foil Lady Amara which is an epic card, so not very common! I also pulled a gold foil Paprikash. What a great start to the packs so far!

And the gold foils didn't stop there, next another epic card Lunaki Howler. A really nice pull!

And last up no more golds, but a nice epic Kicking Roc. While all the others are also great, I'll have to decide what to do with them as they are duplicates. Some I may sell, burn, or give away depending on the situation. It was a lucky pack opening day, it makes up for yesterday when I pulled nothing on any real interest!

That will wrap things up for this Sunday, I hope you enjoyed the post and remembered to participate in Hive Power Up Day! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thanks so much for all of your support. It really is greatly appreciated! Have a great rest of your weekend everyone!

Placing your magic cards behind those melee cards, plus having a magic summoner also did the magic really (pun intended). Nice game, just don't enjoy splinterlands as much I once did.

Thanks! I used to enjoy it more as well, the Foundations got me interested again as they were free. Then Modern can be played with Foundation cards as well, and then the reward cards have helped out a lot. I've made a few purchases, but I use my profit off of card sales to fund those. Those Foundations packs I win daily occasionally give me some very expensive cards to sell!

Did you buy it individually? The attack power is awesome.
but the mana is huge as well.

I bought them individually, but at the time they were priced at about half of what they are now. Otherwise I wouldn't have done it. It would have cost me three times as much to buy up to that level in regular foil. Talk about irony... It is huge mana but it's a fun card to use along with the Mindless Thrall!
