Splinterlands: Making Use of Wailsworn Specter! Bonus Seven Foundations Pack Openings As Well!

A couple months ago I returned to playing Splinterlands as the new Frontier Mode offered some new entertaining challenges. Prior to this I had really only been playing in guild brawls for quite some time. I found the novelty of playing with fewer cards much more challenging, and the competition is pretty stiff. However, a friend pointed out that with a strong Frontier deck you could compete in Modern in Bronze and Silver. So I gave it try!

It's proven to be a fun journey, discovering new abilities and monsters from the Conclave Arcana reward cards. Recently I picked up a new epic card with my end of season glint and as luck would have it, I loved it! This is the Wailsworn Specter:

So what it so special about this card? It had lousy health and speed, but decent magic attack. But when defeated in battle it provides Bloodline Tribute to all other allied cards of the same bloodline. It gives those cards plus one health, shield, speed, and attack. I really didn't have much experience with the bloodlines until now, but wow, there is so much potential to make some very nasty teams.

Once you get the card up to level 2 you also get Amplify, at level 3 Weaken reducing the health of all your opponent's monsters by one. Then at level 6 you get Invigorate and your monsters can no longer become fatigued. But this is going to be at Diamond/ Champion levels so I doubt I'll ever get it leveled up that high!

The Wailsworn Specter is meant to be sacrificed early (at lower levels) if you have a card of the same bloodline in the your team. Many times I put here last to be the victim of Sneak or sometimes in front of my tank if I want the boost right away. It has really made a huge difference in my play with the Mindless Thrall.

A couple weeks back I highlighted this card, it's also one of my favorites as a neutral card. It has powerful magic attack and great speed especially once at level 3. Then add on the bonus from the Bloodline Tribute to those stats and it's one nasty card. Not to mention that Phase ability makes it able to avoid magic attacks at times just as it would physical attacks. It's fun seeing a magic attack miss!

Now time to see the card in action. On this match I made a fundamental mistake right out of the gate by not placing the Wailsworn Specter last, instead out of habit I put the Halfling Refugee. I really should have swapped their positions, but it still worked out!

You can see the entire battle at this link.

First off this particular battle has a mana cap of 42 and the Super Sneak modifier allowing all melee monsters to attack the card in the last position. I went with Marlai Singariel as my archon to increase the magic attack across my team. I chose Asel Alagosdil as my tank followed by Torrent Sniper. I then elected to place the Mindless Thrall next up followed by Mystic Scaleweaver. Then I placed Wailsworn Specter and Halfling Refugee in the wrong order.

My opponent chose to go with Underboss Fabino as the archon and Endless Ape as the tank. That was followed by Halfling Refugee and Ironwing Juggernaut. Then to round off the team there was Mad Ogre Anarchist, Dire Bear, and Grimbardun Fighter. Really not a bad team!

Halfway through round one Endless Ape had been defeated.

By the end of round one my Halfing Refugee and Wailsworn Specter had bit the dust. The latter activated the Bloodline Tribute to the other undead team member Mindless Thrall increasing it's stats really making it a tough card to beat!

Here you can see it's increased stats.

Soon the rest of my opponent's team started dropping like flies. I did lose my Mystic Scaleweaver but the Mindless Thrall was evading attacks beautifully!

And the Dire Bear goes down for the count...

And that finished off the match. The Mindless Thrall became a serious monster thanks to the Bloodline Tribute from the Wailsworn Specter. They make a great combo, and it's why it's become one of my favorites to use in magic teams!

Opening Seven Foundations Packs

I always love saving up my Foundations Packs when I win them playing in Frontier Mode. It's always more exciting to open several at a time, because every now and again you get a great pull. Today I show a seven pack opening from a couple days ago that was pretty sweet! Although my Foundations cards are all maxed out, I tend to sell the cards from these openings. Although I am considering starting to save and build gold foil teams just for the fun of it!

The first card was amazing, a gold foil Marlai Singariel, the water archon that increases magic attacks across your team. Then I also pulled the death archon Thalgrimore which is also in demand.

Next the was a gold foil Savage Butcher which carries a decent value as a gold card. The another gold flash with the Kanaaq Miner, kind of odd to get so many gold out of so few packs. But I'm not complaining!

The last few were okay, but nothing to write home about. I love flipping these cards for a few cents here and there to get some extra DEC. Some can be fairly valuable, but the more common ones often go for $0.002 cents. That means you have to combine five just to get a penny, it's almost not worth it honestly... But a penny is a penny!

I hope you enjoyed my Splinterlands post for the day, the Wailsworn Specter is a great card that I'm really enjoying! Please feel free to leave any questions or comments below, and thanks for all of your support. It's great appreciated. Have a great day everyone!
