It really is a great film! Ironically, I read recently that Russel was unhappy with the finished product as it wasn't the original intended film. Production was behind schedule as so they switched directors, the new guy changed the focus to Russel's and Kilmer's relationship. Russel said he still has the original footage from all of the filming but hasn't had the time to rebuild the film as it was intended. He said if it had been finished as it had started in would be one of the greatest films of all time.
