Late 70's and Early 80's Female Fronted Rock Bands for Three Tune Tuesday

This morning I realized it was Tuesday, which meant it was time to put together yet another Three Tune Tuesday. The only problem being, I really hadn't put any thought into what I might want to assemble. Most of the time I can say there is a semblance of a plan in the back of my mind, but not this morning. I was up before six AM and headed into the backyard to enjoy some coffee. Then for some reason, out of the blue, a song by the band Blondie popped into my head, and an idea was born!

Today, I decided to go back in time to the late 70's and early 80's to share some songs from female fronted bands. Narrowing down the options after Blondie wasn't easy, and I had a hard time leaving out Pat Benatar. But I'll get her back for another post in the next few weeks! I decided to add in some early music from the band Berlin and some Joan Jett. It should be a lot of fun!

But first off I want to say thank you to @ablaze for starting and continuing to sponsor this fun weekly event where you can share three songs that you enjoy. One lucky participant will win some HSBI units, you can't have too many of those! So if you don't already participate feel free to jump in, just use the tag #ttt or #threetunetuesday and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @ablaze .

Here we go!

Blondie

This punk rock/ new wave band formed in New York City back in 1974 and are fronted by the talented Debbie Harry. In 1978 they released Parallel Lines which scored them multiple hits including the number 1 "Heart of Glass" and the hit "One Way Or Another". The continued their streak of hit albums through 1982 before parting ways. Although they reformed in 1997, their best days had past them by, but they produced some amazing music in the late 70's and early 80's. This is "One Way Or Another":

Berlin

Long before "Take My Breath Away", Berlin began as a European style synth band that first gained them notoriety. One of their best albums, in my opinion, was called Pleasure Victim, released in late 1982 scoring a few big hits including "Sex (I'm A)" and "The Metro". I thought about featuring the former, however, I figured regional blocking because of the song's title might be problematic in some countries. I chose to go with the latter "The Metro" for today, it's a darker side of the band with a very catchy tune. Of course they are fronted by the beautiful Teri Nunn!

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

I've always been a big Joan Jett fan, she has such raw energy on stage and always a lot of fun to hear. After the breakup of the band The Runaways she embarked on her successful solo career with The Blackhearts in 1979. In 1981 she released her huge breakout album I Love Rock 'n Roll which shot her into superstardom. She's had a long and successful career even being inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame back in 2015. But here's the first song from the debut album that set it all in motion, "I Love Rock 'n Roll":

That will wrap up this Three Tune Tuesday, and I hope you enjoyed it! These are always a lot of fun to put together! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below and thank you for all of your support. It's greatly appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

Classic rock my friend….. the music nowadays just doesn’t seem to hold a candle to the 70’s and 80’s💪🤗

Today has a lot of great rock & roll. The difference is it’s not in the mainstream or culture. Definitely some lesser known great bands today, just not easy to find.

It's hard to find music as good today as back then. A lot of the new stuff is pop pushed hard by producers, you have to search to find the true gems out there. Most people just don't appreciate rock n roll like they used to which is a sad thing...

It’s all about the money…….🙄
I have heard countless stories of recording artist that were told they weren’t good enough only to become famous musicians later on at a different record label!😊

Most odd event ever, my first concert was Berlin. My older sister took me in the mid eighties. Not as cool as a rock show but still was a fun memory.

That must of been fun, Teri looked really good back in those days! They did have some decent rock songs come 1986 on Count Three and Pray, but you were there before they really switched to rock. Still it must have been a cool show, I've never seen them live!

The first song is unmistakable; I love both the rhythm and the lyrics. Blondie is a great band, really, but I still don't know almost any of their songs. I have to give it a chance, not just this band, but the others on this list as well.

Excellent post.

What an awesome movie! It was filled with so much good music and had a great cast. They just don't make movies like that anymore...
