Considering Selling Off Some Of My Silver Stack...

Back in January of this year silver prices spiked all of the way up to $120 due to widespread shortages. It since has undergone some correction in price but has been staying around $80. I was fortunate to sell some silver when it was above $100 which I converted into gold. I do own a fair amount of silver, but not a whole lot of gold, so it fit my long term investment strategy. Recently, I have been pulling some other silver out of secure storage considering selling it if there is once again a nice spike in prices.

Back in 2009 the United States Mint created a commemorative coin celebrating to 200th birthday of Louis Braille. He developed Braille used worldwide by those with visual deficiencies. At the time they were priced well and silver was relatively inexpensive so I picked up some of these as an investment to possibly flip in the future. I had almost forgotten that I had so many or I might have sold them to purchase some other items a few years ago! So it may be time to part with all but one of these coins in the near future.

They are nice coins that come in their own presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.

About the coin:

From numista.com

And the outer sleeve that protects the inner box.

These coins were produced in the Philadelphia mint in 2009 composed of 90% silver. The actual silver amount in each coin comes out to 0.773 Troy ounces and with current silver prices that makes each one worth $60.12 in just the silver value alone. Collectors do tend to pay a bit more of a premium on these as they are approaching twenty years old now. Trend prices show around $95 currently for the uncirculated version which these are. So with any luck, I can get a nice return on my investment when I decide to cash them out!

I did make money for sure, back in 2009 silver was still cheap! The funds raised from these and the others I'm considering selling will likely help pay down some bills and the rest will likely go into some gold. I really don't own enough gold, so it's time to start picking up some more for my long term investment strategy!

Louis Braille

Born in 1809 in Coupvray, France, he led a normal childhood until age three. He had the misfortune of being blinded in one eye by a stitching awl in his father's workshop. He then developed a condition know as sympathetic ophthalmia where his own immune system attacked his good eye after being exposed to the lacerated bad eye. That's why today lacerated, blind eyes are commonly removed to prevent this extremely rare condition.

Despite having lost his sight he excelled in his schooling and by the time he was fifteen he had created a fast, efficient way for blind individuals to read and write using tactile sensations of ordered dots that represent letters. His system was compact and could even be used in music. He served as a professor for the blind in France's Royal Institute for Blind Youth throughout most to his adult life. He however succumbed to tuberculosis at age 42, a truly nasty disease...

Braille's system of reading/writing was not widely adopted in his lifetime, however, two years after his death it was became the standard in the Royal Institute. Then it slowly spread to other nations and now is the universally accepted communication for the visually impaired worldwide, and is virtually unchanged from the time it was developed. He may not have gotten credit in his lifetime, but he changed millions of lives for the better for those with visual impairments.

That will do it for me today. I hope you enjoyed seeing the coins and I hope I'm making the right call on picking these as some to sell. I think it is though! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thanks for all of your support. It truly is deeply appreciate. Have a great day everyone!

Nice coins, never bad to take a profit, that being said, silver takes out $120 and goes higher this year is my prediction..

I think it's going up again too, so I'm in preparation phase right now. Get the items together I don't mind parting with, and when the time is right sell them off!

Like I always say, have a plan and stick to it. That’s why I sold when $100 came in. But it’s funny, most people don’t. The amount of comments saying they might sell here at $75 or so makes me think we might see a big move up honestly. Though I’m leaning toward we don’t see a new ATH in 2026 and maybe not 2027. But could see $100 area as a short term top maybe, but no new ATH next 12 months I’d bet for sure.

The bulk silver and junk are the first to go. I sold a lot back when it was more expensive. I'm looking for the next victims for the next sale now!

It was more the price was right and I figured eventually I could make some money. I also picked up a bunch of Abe Lincoln one's too which I have since parted with the majority at a nice profit. I like commemorative coins and like to keep at least one of each in the stack somewhere @silversaver888 !

Always good to take some profits off the table, my friend!👍
Gold is very stable and even with a pull back, it tends to hold its value better than silver!

That is a nice little commemorative you got there. No doubt you will find the right buyer and get a good price for them.

Thinking about parting with some of my collection soon as well. Just need to take the time to go through it and start parcing it out.

Thanks Joe, I just got to find the right buyer at the right time. Never easy to line up the two, but hopefully the plan will all work out!

We all got bills to pay, and nothing wrong with dipping into the savings when you're ahead of the game. @thebighigg
So far, I have sufficient income and savings income to avoid doing that until the day I or my kids will truly need it. Our Stacks afford us that option, that's why we stack.

Sadly bills are part of life, and I'm glad to hear you are getting enough income to make those ends meet still @kerrislravenhill ! I hope it stays that way! Having a stack is a great cushion to fall back on worst case scenario!

It was a wise decision to sell above 100$ even if you were planning to hold, you could as well buy it back at a cheaper rate too. Wise investment choices

I posted about my trip to the dealer the day we went above $115, sold 500 ounces or 25% my stack over a couple visits. Just was obvious we’d see a 50% pullback to me. I posted about it but almost nobody wants to listen during hype periods. The amount of people saying they might sell now males me think we could see $100 again this year but I’m calling it, no way we see new ATH above $120 again in 2026. Just my personal opinion.

One day I want to have enough money that I can buy a whole roll of rounds. Like ten of them at a time or whatever it is. I probably had more chance of doing that back when silver was $30 per ounce...

Back in the 90's when silver was less than $10 and ounce I used to buy those. Boy times have changed! lol

Ive been thinking of selling some as well. Most likely I'll unload some low premium or sterling first.

Smart move, that's the stuff I'm looking at as well. Then items like these that I bought up as a speculative move that prices would go up eventually, and they sure did!

I did a post telling people the day we hit $115 to sell a portion of stack. Glad I did myself. I see no real reason we see $120 in 2026 second half, but ya never know!

Everything is tipsy turvy out there right now. It might sky rocket again or just hang out at $80. If oil weren't so expensive gold and silver would be going crazy price wise right now!

Eh I dunno, I actually think they’d be lower if the conflict never happened.
