Baseball Shonen [The FreeCompliments Weekly Art Contest]

I felt like sketching something today, so I decided to post it as an entry for The FreeCompliments Weekly Art Contest.


I made this sketch in less than 30 minutes, but I actually kind of like it. I only used my gel pens and my A5 graph pad.

I'm in dire need of more baseball manga these days. I just finished reading Rookies and I caught up with the latest chapter of Boukyaku Battery... and I'm still hungry for more. lol

Anyway, I'll try to read another manga for now and also get started with the anime on my list. I'm way behind on the anime community's monthly quest. XD

For now, allow me to share some of the progress shots for this sketch.

Despite it being a quick gel pen sketch, I still started with a pencil sketch. I'm not confident in making one directly using pen, especially the mouth and nose part. I'm trying to practice a different angle this time as I usually draw my sketches facing forward.


I initially just wanted it to be black, but it looked so boring, so I took out my colored gel pens. :)




My white pen didn't work, so I used acrylic paint for the eyes. hahaha Isn't this baseball shonen kind of cute? Maybe because I just caught up with Boukyakyu Battery that the art style turned out to be similar. XD

I should draw some anime fan art sometime soon! I could use one for the quest. Oh well... thanks for checking this out. I hope you like this simple sketch. See you around! (^^,)/

Your design is really cool. I've never seen or read a manga about baseball. I think I'd be very curious to see what it would be like. I congratulate you very much for the drawing, it's great.
