Three tune Tuesday and the legend of gypsy jazz
Introduction
@ablaze has been doing 3 tune Tuesday for quite a while and we love the idea of it and some of the posts @stickupmusic has been doing it but I though I would join in too. it is a great way to listen to new music which is always something we want to do!
Our picks
This week we are all about Django Reinhardt the legendary guitarist with a style all of his own. Porbably the second most influential guitarist for me after Davey Graham. His effortless flow around the guitar alongside interesting modal scales makes him instantly recognisable and a borderline musical genius. I have never been able to play anywhere near his level, but I loved him so much I named my first son Django in honour of him.
You can find out more about him here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Django_Reinhardt
Song 1
Maybe one of his most famous songs to start with. All the rhyth coming off the guitar and double bass and the lovely violins sweeping across it like a melody from heaven. On top of it all it also has a very catch riff
Song 2
if this does not want you to sit in Paris drinking a nice glass of wine I am not sure what will? Again with the combination with Grapelli the guitar and violin match in perfect tone to create something infectious.
Song 3
"Djangology" as a title for a song says it all. Check some of the ridiculous guitar licks on this song as this is a song to highlight his skill that only a master could produce.
Oh forgot to say he only had 2 functioning fingers......here is a quick documentary about him if you want to know more
We love all types of music and hope that you like our choices!
Big up all the music in the world and the joy we get making and listening to it!
Stick Up Boys
Fun fact, my little brother, who is also here although not very active these days @pechichemena has a band of precisely this style of music.
I guess you have to watch it on youtube.
very cool!
Cool stuff. I've had a go at that style too, but only the basics.
Ah Django! I've played a few of his tunes in my jazz duo, but I'm not hot on soloing. He was an amazing talent.
ye it is a whole thing soloing! I can do the rhythm but not the solos lol
Luckily I know people who can solo well.
